and sneak off by himself,” Indigo said.
Clyde looked to the side, and Indigo figured that was exactly what he’d tried to do.
“I should have still called you or texted. I… shit, I don’t know what I was thinking,” Clyde said.
Indigo leaned against the counter once the coffee started brewing.
“I don’t blame you at all, Clyde. As much as our shifter side makes us possessive and protective of our mates, Logan is a grown man, and he is free to make his own decisions. With or without my input,” Indigo said. He sighed. “Although I wished my mate would have told me, but that’s for me to talk about with him. Thank you for bringing him home safely.”
Clyde nodded, but his mouth was in a firm line, and Indigo wasn’t sure what else he could say. Emory moved over to Clyde as if sensing his mood and placed a hand on his shoulder.
“Uh, want to eat some of my conchas?” Emory said.
A sly smile crept up Clyde’s face. “You know it, Sugar.”
A blush covered Emory’s face. “You don’t have to sound so enthusiastic.”
Indigo laughed, but now that he wasn’t all consumed by Logan, he took in a breath and his head tilted to the side.
“Rabbit?” he said out loud.
Emory’s eyes went big, and Clyde was in front of him growling and guarding his mate.
Indigo raised his free hand, and he turned his body, guarding his child.
“Hey, your mate is in no danger here,” Indigo said.
Still, there was the smell of fear, and although shifters were human, the predator side of them could always smell a prey’s fear. Clyde’s growl deepened. Dezi was in the kitchen in a second, taking Clyde down before he could have done anything. Kenny was there next to him and ushering Emory back a little.
“Calm down, Clyde. Let your jaguar know no one will touch him. We won’t harm a hair on him.”
Clyde’s eyes closed, and Indigo could see the struggle he was facing.
Indigo hadn’t heard of prey shifters ever being with a predator. It just went against all logic, but Indigo couldn’t deny that Emory was, in fact, Clyde’s mate just based on the man’s reaction.
Emory seemed to have got a hold of his fear and dropped to his knees.
“I’m fine. I was a little afraid because I remembered I was in a house full of predators, but it’s okay,” Emory said.
It was like an instant change. Clyde relaxed in Dezi’s hold. The coffee maker beeped, and Indigo turned from everything happening as he poured the coffee and grabbed his mate’s favorite sweet creamer and put in the perfect amount until the coffee was the right shade of medium brown.
He turned back, seeing Clyde up and running his fingers through his hair, which he must have forgotten was done up in spikes. They flattened a little and stuck up at strange angles.
Emory muffled his laughter as he tried to fix it. Clyde had a huge smile on his face.
“Emory, I hope you know you’re safe here. Regardless of our animal sides, we don’t hunt our own,” Dezi said in a deep voice.
Emory nodded. “Thank you.”
Indigo met Clyde’s gaze and gave him a nod. It was all good between them, and he understood completely. Clyde wanted to protect his mate.
Indigo made his way back to the clinic and stopped short as he just watched his two little girls with Logan. Their nap apparently over. Go thing Indigo had went to get his mate a cup of coffee.
“Papa, will she be a lynx like you or a panther like Daddy and me?” Gabriella asked.
Gabriella hadn’t shifted yet. They still had at least four more years before that happened, but with Indigo and Teagan both being a panther, it was the only thing she was going to be.
Logan ran his fingers through her hair. “Hmm, only time will tell. We will know once she’s older. But when she does shift, you will help her, right?”
Gabriella nodded, staring down at her little sister with so much love.
“I love you, Indigo, but if you continue to stand so far away with my coffee, I will bite you,” Logan said.
A warm feeling spread throughout Indigo’s chest as he laughed. This was his family, his everything. His mate and children he cherished with every fiber of his being. He made it to his mate and handed him the cup of coffee, but he stole a kiss before Logan could taste it.
“I love you too, Bean.”

The End.
Thank you for reading His Runaway Mate book 4 in the Unexpected Mates series. Indigo and Logan’s story was an emotional love story that I instantly fell in love with. I hope you loved it as much as I do.
Next up is our adorable rabbit shifter Emory and his mate Clyde a jaguar. I’m filled with a bunch of excitement to work on them.
I hope you’re looking forward to the next two books in the series. I would greatly appreciate an honest review letting other readers know your thoughts on this book.
