he pushed, and the placenta slipped out.
“That was easier than pushing the baby out,” Morgan said.
Logan laughed. “Yeah, I’d hope so.” Logan cleaned up everything, and Kenny transferred his mate and baby to the other bed in the clinic. Logan stripped everything down and tossed it out. He took once more glance at the happy family, his hand drifting to his own stomach. Soon that would be him.
“Logan,” Kenny called out.
Logan stopped at the door. “Hm?”
“Thank you,” Kenny said.
Logan smiled. “You’re welcome.”
“Can you let Ava in? I know she is dying to meet her brother,” Kenny said.
Logan nodded. “I’ll go get her.” He walked out of the room with a sense of happiness.
Logan found Ava and sent her into the clinic. She ran in there so fast Logan was surprised there wasn’t a trail of fire behind her. He made his way to his bedroom and took a shower, his mind completely blank.
Logan had no idea how long he spent in the shower, but when he pushed the curtain out of the way and looked up, Indigo stood there with a towel outstretched in his hands. The need to be wrapped up in his mate’s arms overrode every logical thought in his head. One second he was standing in the tub, and the next he was in Indigo’s arms, a soft fluffy towel wrapped around him.
Tears pricked the back of his eyes, but he wasn’t sad. He was just… he didn’t know, but he only knew his mate could make him feel better. Indigo said nothing as he dried Logan off and was just there, holding him in all the right ways.
Indigo put soft pants on him and pulled him to the bed, and Logan lay in between his legs and laid his head on Indigo’s chest, listening to the soothing beat of his mate’s heart. Indigo ran his fingers down Logan’s neck, and Logan sank further into the feeling of his mate.
“I love you,” Logan whispered in the otherwise quiet room. He was pretty sure he heard Indigo say it back, but Logan was already drifting off to sleep in his mate’s arms.
Logan’s emotions had been all over the place. The main one was anger, and Indigo knew how to navigate around his mate. The man couldn’t have coffee anymore, so sweets and kisses usually turned his frown upside down. Indigo grabbed the last of the triple-chocolate cake from the kitchen and made his way to their shared room.
“Bean, look what I got,” Indigo said as he walked into the room.
Logan was on the bed holding a pillow to his chest and crying.
“What’s the matter?” Indigo asked, moving quickly into the room and sitting the cake down on the nightstand. He wanted to grab his mate instantly and hold him tight and wipe away all his tears.
“This part is just so sad. Why did he have to die?” Logan whined.
Indigo finally glanced at the TV, and it was one of the many kid movies Gabriella loved playing on the screen. The pink elephant–looking creature was disappearing after he’d sacrificed himself for the yellow girl. It was an emotional moment and a movie they had watched with Gabriella plenty of times, and this was the first time Logan was bawling over it.
Indigo pulled the pillow from his mate and hugged him.
“It’s okay, Bean. He did it for a good cause,” Indigo said.
Logan hiccupped, wetting Indigo’s shirt with his tears. “But…”
Indigo made soothing noises and just held his overly emotional mate. Slowly, Logan calmed down. Through it all, Indigo made sure his mate could feel the love and acceptance through the bond. Indigo was here for it all—the crying, the yelling, and the pouting. He loved his mate with every fiber of his being.
“I wish I could have some coffee,” Logan complained for the millionth time.
“As soon as the baby is born, I’ll take you to all the cool coffee shops,” Indigo said.
Logan sniffled. “Promise?”
“Promise.”
Indigo held his mate to him for as long as he needed. His body completely relaxed against Indigo’s chest. He turned in Indigo’s embrace and peppered kisses along his jaw and face. Desire simmered right under the surface.
Logan kissed him, and Indigo fell back on the bed, their tongues tangled together in a slow but sensual kiss. Logan’s hands skated down his body and roamed under his shirt. Everywhere his mate’s fingers went, goose bumps rose. Indigo groaned into the kiss and couldn’t stop himself from touching his mate in return.
Logan pulled back, biting his lip. “I
