But it was hard as hell with the man so close and treating Logan like a prized jewel.
Logan grabbed the grey sweatpants. “I can do it.”
Indigo didn’t argue with him and just leaned forward. He hesitated before pulling back, and the heavy disappointment settled in Logan’s stomach like a rock. He pushed past it. This is how things are supposed to be. Logan got dressed as quickly as his limbs could move.
“Where’s your phone?” Indigo asked. “We tried to call you a few times.”
Logan shrugged. “I think it’s dead somewhere, but I don’t know.” He felt a little ashamed he’d completely lost himself. He stood to help look for it, but Indigo was there pushing him back down. He kissed Logan on the forehead, sending butterflies to Logan’s stomach. There had been no hesitation, as if he’d done it without thought.
“It’s fine, I’ll look for it. We’re still waiting on Cole to get back anyways,” Indigo said.
Logan nodded, just sitting there.
“Found it,” Indigo said from the side of the bed, and when he stood, he had Logan’s phone in hand. “It’s dead.”
Logan shrugged. “I must have forgotten to charge it.”
Indigo came over and sat next to him, bringing his arm up to wrap it around Logan’s shoulders.. Logan knew logically he should probably pull away or create some distance between them, but he found himself needing the comfort. So instead he laid his head down on Indigo’s shoulder.
“You know, I was really worried,” Indigo said, breaking their silence.
Logan wanted to argue, but he couldn’t. “I’m sorry.”
Indigo’s arm tightened around him. They said nothing else until there was a soft knock before Cole stood in the doorway, coffee in hand. Logan sat up, a smile trying to tug at his lips, but it didn’t feel as if it really reached.
“Here,” Cole said.
Logan sighed. “Damn, I must really look a mess if you aren’t being your usual bubbly self.”
Cole smiled at him. “You’re not nearly looking as bad as roadkill.”
Logan huffed out a laugh. Great, he was one step above roadkill, and that was after Indigo had cleaned him all up.
“Whatever,” Logan huffed with what felt like a genuine smile curving his lips.
They made their way downstairs and to Cole’s car. Instead of Indigo getting into the front seat, he slipped in the back with Logan and wrapped his arms around him. Logan sighed in relief, falling deeper into the touch. He wasn’t strong enough to resist and relaxed further in his mate’s arms. Things were complicated before, but now it was getting blurry, and yet Logan was in no hurry to separate them.
They pulled into the driveway of the pride house, and Logan’s shoulders tensed.
“What’s the matter?” Indigo asked, pulling his mate closer to him.
“You didn’t answer me before. How much time has passed?”
Indigo glanced up, catching Cole’s gaze in the rearview mirror. He nodded before getting out of the car and giving them privacy.
“Four days,” Indigo finally answered.
Logan looked up at him in shock. He shook his head and lowered it back down.
“Fuck, that’s a long time. How could I have just lost myself?”
It sounded as if he was talking more to himself than Indigo, but he still responded.
“But it’s okay now,” Indigo reassured him.
Logan was silent for a long while, and just when Indigo was about to open the car door, Logan spoke.
“Is it? Because it feels like nothing has changed. In fact, this may make everything worse,” Logan said, looking back at Indigo.
There was so much sadness in his brown eyes, and they shimmered with unshed tears. Indigo wanted to give him all the promises—he wanted to wipe away all the tears in his mate’s eyes—but was it fair to do that?
“We won’t know until we try,” Indigo said.
Logan sighed, looking just as exhausted as he had before. Indigo got out of the car and helped Logan out. They made it to the front door, and Dezi and Kash were both standing there. Dezi pulled Logan into an embrace, and Indigo swallowed back his growl. Some of it came through anyway, and Dezi was quick to let Logan go. He smiled at Indigo but focused once again on Logan.
“You are to stay here from now on. Clyde and Cole will go pack your place up,” Dezi said.
Logan nodded, not arguing, and Indigo sighed in relief, glad his mate didn’t challenge Dezi on the decision.
“I saved some dinner for the both of you. I’ll bring it to your rooms,” Kash said.
“Thanks,” Logan whispered.
They walked into the house and Indigo
