me lip, and do as I say. It’s what I pay you for. Get Journey cleared on everything, now!”
She reluctantly sighed. “I need her driver’s license.”
I peered around the room, looking for the backpack she brought with her everywhere. Finding it on the far end of the couch, I unzipped it and pulled out her wallet. In my quick attempt of searching for her ID, a folded piece of paper fell out with her license.
“Here.” I handed it to Jamie.
“I’ll get it taken care of right away.”
For a second, I debated on whether or not to open the note. In the end, I couldn’t help myself. My curiosity won the best of me. I unfolded it, and in her handwriting, it read:
Bucket List
-Swim under a waterfall
-Hike Silver Falls State Park
-Go skinny-dipping
-Go on a hot air balloon ride
-Sleep underneath the stars in the desert
-Learn how to drive stick shift in a 67 Chevelle
-Set a Guinness World Record
-Have a star named after me
“Okay! I’m ready!” Journey exclaimed, making me jolt.
I threw her wallet back in her bag and folded the piece of paper, sliding it into my pocket instead. I wanted to finish reading the list that would lead me to her heart.
She walked outta the bathroom as I gazed up. “What the fuck are you wearin’?”
“What?” She played all innocent, holding a pair of scissors. “Don’t you like my outfit?”
“What outfit? There ain’t nothin’ left of it.”
“Sure there is. I just did some minor alterations.”
“Journey,” I warned in a low murmur.
“Cash! It’s a concert, and I’m wearing your merch!”
She’d cut up a Life of Debauchery shirt right underneath her tits. Slicing holes in the fabric to make it look like it was worn-out. Her jean shorts also received a makeover. The little minx cut those up too, showing off way too much leg and ass for my liking. To finish off her ensemble, she wore a pair of pink Chucks.
“Is that my belt?” I questioned, referring to the heavy metal strap she was wearing.
“Yep. I figured you wouldn’t mind, considering you love seeing me in your clothes, yeah?”
“Did you have all this planned out? Is that why you waited to change until we got here?”
She nodded, proud as fuck of herself.
“Dave!” I shouted for my head bodyguard.
My three-hundred-and-fifty-pound, six-foot-seven, pure muscle guard walked into the living room. “Yeah.”
“You’re on Journey duty from here on out. Where she goes, you go. We clear?”
“Of course, sir.”
Nobody fucked with Dave. He could crush anyone with his finger alone.
“Oh my God! Now I get a babysitter? This is bullshit!”
“Junie, don’t cuss.”
“Nobody knows who I am! Why do I need a bodyguard?”
“Wit’ the way you’re dressed, you’re lucky I don’t get ya two of ’em. On second thought, Vic—”
“Cash! Don’t you dare!”
“People know who you are, Junie. Your brother is an NFL god.”
She rolled her eyes. “The press knows who I am, not normal people.”
“Yeah, well, there’s fifty thousand normal people who are ’bout to find out who you are to me. So you’ll have a bodyguard everywhere you go from here on out.”
“Wait, what? This isn’t just for today?”
“Hate to break it to ya, darlin’. Welcome to my world.”
“Fine. Whatever. He’s not following me into the bathroom. I draw the line at peeing.” She looked at Dave. “When I pee, I do it alone.”
“Of course, ma’am.”
“No.” She put her hand in the air. “We’re nipping this ma’am thing now because we’re about to become best friends, Dave. The name’s Journey.”
He glanced in my direction, and I nodded in approval.
“Sounds good, Journey. Cash has never assigned me to anyone before, so you must be something special. I’ll make sure to guard you with my life, like I do his. Anything you need, I’ll always be right outside the door if we’re not in public.”
“Thanks, Dave,” I drawled.
“Now that you have complete control over my life, what’s next?” Journey declared after Dave left the room.
“Junie, it’s for your own good.”
“Yeah, yeah, I know. You can make it up to me by taking me to rehearsal with you.”
“Already planned on it.” I grabbed her hand, tugging her onto my lap. She straddled my waist, while I held her face in between my hands. “If I ain’t on stage, you’re by my side. Wit’ me wherever I go. Understood?”
“There’s nowhere else I’d rather be.” She smiled. “I mean, unless you’re in the bathroom doing the deed.”
I laughed so hard my head fell back.
“I grew up with two brothers. I know what goes on in there. It ain’t pretty.”
“Oh yeah?
