at the liquid dripping down her ankles. “I’m no expert, but don’t you think that could have been your waters breaking?”
“Holy shit! Baby rhino is coming!” Freya exclaims, her head snapping to Mac. “Phone Belle…phone Allie…phone my mum. Phone your mum. Shit, we should have got another mobile!”
“You phone Belle. I’ll phone everyone else once we’re at the hospital!” I tell them and turn to Santino, who has a very strange look on his face. Maybe the waters breaking is a bit much for him. Blokes can be such babies.
I run down the hall and grab the hospital suitcase that has been packed for over a month now. I return to find Mac getting Freya into her coat that doesn’t button and walking out the door.
“We’ll be right behind you,” I yell as they make their way to their car.
“After we drop Tilly’s stuff off,” Santino adds.
I frown up at him. “What do you mean?”
“Tilly, we can’t park my car full of valuables in a hospital parking lot. Everything could get stolen.”
I point at the car. “But Freya’s having the baby.”
“She’ll barely be checked into the hospital before we’re done.”
I grumble my annoyance as we hop into Santino’s car and he drives the opposite direction of the hospital. “You missed the turn to your flat,” I say, pointing at the road we just whizzed by.
“Oh, we have to make a stop,” he replies casually.
“What?”
“It’ll be a quick stop.”
“Santino! Freya is in labour.”
“Are you helping Belle with the delivery?”
“No,” I harumph and cross my arms over my chest. “But I want to be there the second that bairn is born. Jacob Fergus Logan will not go a day in his life without knowing who his auntie Tilly is.”
“Auntie Trouble,” Santino corrects.
I side-eye him and grow more and more frustrated the farther we get from his flat. “Santino, seriously, where are we going? I said I’d make calls!”
“You’re going to like it.”
“I’m going to like to see my nephew when he’s born! We don’t have time to be dawdling!”
“Jesus, you’re bossy.”
“Well, if you don’t get me to that hospital before he’s born, then you and I will be in another eight-day fight.”
He frowns and shoots me a proper pout. “Too soon.”
“Really? Too soon?” I roll my eyes. “I’m moving into your flat officially, and you still feel upset about our fight that happened ages ago?”
He shoots me a sexy smirk that has my mind going in a very different direction. I shake away that thought and ask him again, “Where are we going?”
“It’s a new street art mural that just went up, and apparently, it’s on a pay-by-the-day wall, so it will only be up for today. You’re going to love it.”
“Oh yes, I’ve seen those pay-by-the-day walls!” I reply, pulling my mobile up to scan through the photographs I’ve managed to grab. “That’s such a cool idea, but it’s always a shame they just paint over it to throw something new up.”
“Capitalism,” Santino huffs.
We park adjacent to the wall, and I rush out, wanting to get a look at this, take my photo, and get back in the car. As I round the corner, my jaw drops.
It’s a stunning Godfather painting of Marlon Brando as Vito Corleone with a famous quote beside his lifted finger that says “I’m gonna make her an offer she can’t refuse.”
“They got it wrong!” I call out over my shoulder, shaking my head in confusion. “They got the quote wrong! Can you believe that? I mean…first of all…it’s a him. Vito’s godson asks his godfather to help him get a movie part because this producer, a male, rejected him, and Vito says in the movie, ‘I’m gonna make him an offer he can’t refuse.’ But the book said ‘I’ll make him an offer he can’t refuse’ so really, if you’re going to do something, you should do it properly, you know? How could they screw this up? It’s a cult classic! A quick Google would have—”
My voice trails off when I turn around to find Santino watching me with a knowing smile like he is enjoying my little outburst. “I didn’t expect Mac and Freya to go into labour today of all days, but I’m afraid I’ve been planning this for a while, so baby Fergie will just have to share the spotlight.”
“Spotlight?” I ask, my face twisting up in confusion.
He gets a peculiar look on his face, and suddenly, he drops down on one knee.
Twitching. My nose is twitching uncontrollably.
His voice is calm and collected
