the matter, especially with his disappearance trick yesterday. Just the idea of confrontation with him got the butterflies twirling around.
First step placed into the shop and Annie is sending lots of hints my way, anything to get me into the window display area. Ideas kept being suggested about the hoop needing to come down in the window, we don’t want any risks of it falling. As I want to scream it’s been up there all day, why the rush? The bite on my tongue as I taste the sharp metallic tang in my mouth from the inside of my cheek, stops me from doing so. The constant nag in my ears, not stopping and the risk of a migraine forming with the chance to save my hearing now, I give in and do as she’s asked, thinking who’s actually in charge here.
The moment I enter I totally get her point; how did she know? Slid in between the weaved irises was the red envelope identical to the others I had seen with the trademark initial and lots of violet creams. When I shifted closer my heart skipped a beat as I inspected the delicate hand-poured milk chocolate which had been imprinted with the initial ‘V’ across the top.
My fingers skimmed the envelope as I knew this mystery person would have left me a message to decipher within. Another mystery to discover.
5 days of love
Your heart is starting to warm
The necklace hung delectable
Pity I didn’t get to hang it there.
My mouth dropped open as the necklace was put on toward the end of the day narrowing down who would have known about me wearing it. I mean my ‘mystery admirer’ had been discussed with some of the regular customers yesterday. In my head, I always wondered what makes them regular to be honest, if it was just the sweet caring type or always in trouble with the other half. How often did someone actually visit a florist? The big point was whoever this mystery person was they knew my movements, the shop, and of course my likes and dislikes pretty well.
A strange feeling coursed over my shoulder as I saw the curtain drop back into position and the bell sound, she was watching my every minuscule movement and reaction but for reasons unknown to me. A few moments of composure, I could gather myself together enough to question her for sure in the time she had managed to deal with the customer but as I stepped back into the main room, Adam and Annie quickly jumped apart as if they had been burnt by fire. The look between the three of us as Adam stepped over comforted me. “Sorry about that I wanted to check you were alright, you seemed distant after yesterday. This week has been crazy at the wholesalers it’s been so much busier in the mornings that I’ve really taken my eye off the ball with my time keeping here, but I will be here bright and early in the morning.” It was if someone had read my thoughts. “It’s fine, you know how I find this time of year that’s all, actually ‘Mr. Casanova’ hit again last night.”
Annie runs over. “I knew it, it’s so romantic, isn’t it? What did he do today? Shall I guess, no, no that makes it worse, just tell me.” She’s like a kid in a toy shop, bouncing on her tiptoes clapping her hands.
The fits of laughter from Adam and I as we watched. “Annie, you look like an otter doing tricks, come on girl, I won’t hold you in suspense as I hold the curtain open.”
Like a gust of wind, Annie knew exactly where to go, not having to search anywhere, hmm. “Violet creams, omg they are so cute, how amazing are they? The detail is amazing,” she says as she looks at the swirls and patterns in the chocolate.
“Would you like one?” I offer them both one each, as they shake their heads and decline.
Adam studies the room. “Dark chocolate only for me, milk makes it too sickly for me and white, well, they are the weird ones.”
As I turn to Annie. “Looks like they were bought for you especially in mind. Violet, as ‘I’m one of those weird white lovers’ and you’re a milk girl,” she says as Adam turns a bright beetroot red in embarrassment.
With a mix of Annie’s over the top sense of excitement combined with Adam and his secluded quiet demeanour my mind was in
