of food they enjoyed eating, why say you’re vegetarian then ask for my steak? Seriously! And to top it off it was GREAT, no scrap that, OUTSTANDING company, he knew how to please me in the most delicious ways possible, tease and tantalise in tantric motions to make sure ‘a big o’ satisfied my pleasures all too well. With various settings and speeds, B.O.B. wouldn’t have a problem with ensuring complete satisfaction guaranteed, no matter my mood or need. A date with B.O.B. was now certainly on the cards. Adam just sat with a smug grin as he listened to my waffled spouts as he tried to hide the threatened laughter that built, he loved to see me embarrassed and flustered, maybe the bottle of wine I had consumed so far had let my mouth spew a little more than I normally would for once but what the hell—best friend prerogative, right?
The shop window was a pivotal point of a business it could make or break you. The way you displayed your craft, the show it provided toward your potential cliental base engaged in what you were capable of creating for them. It spoke volumes about the people who ran the production behind the scenes, the front of ‘The Posy Bowl’ needed to look like a couple’s most enchanting romantic paradise in the world. If you couldn’t showcase your talent this month and really show the true power of what was meant by love, then you would struggle to bring the capital in. Flowers were one of the most iconic items at this time of year, scrap that they were made for the occasion, probably the one gift every woman was given by her significant other. If you are unable to sell them in February, then you were certainly in the wrong game.
My plan to be seen was simple, it had become a tradition in our local town each year to create displays in the shop windows showcasing the gradual lead up for seven days prior to an event, each of us picked a different time of year to support our community and of course I picked the obvious choice of Valentine’s Day. The closer to the day of the event the windows became dressed more dramatic and elaborate so they enticed customers with the variety of products available to purchase. This year was like no other, I was determined to make my shop stand out from the crowd and with Adam’s help, I am confident I would have no trouble to ensure its a showstopper. With support from the other local businesses hopefully this year was ‘The Posy Bowl’s’ most successful yet.
Some florists would call my methods mad, maybe a little crazy even and would plan the displays in advance to ensure a magnificent floral masterpiece each and every day, mine were showstoppers don’t get me wrong, I got lots of regular compliments especially from Mrs. Hogarth, the butcher’s wife, she loved how creative I became in the short time I had done this. My originality was one of my proudest achievements. I prided myself on the use of local and daily sourced flowers to help our community neighbourhood stick together. The fun part was the unexpected yes, it’s February, of course, you will get roses but the quality is out of this world then with everything else available in season you just never know what may just turn up on the day. Hopefully, though it brought the customers to the doors rather than to the big chains instead.
Chapter Two
Adam
Valentine’s would soon be upon us again. Another year alone, but for once a new excitement bubbled within my veins as I needed to do something different this year. You see Violet, my best friend for the last 3 years—had had her fair share of hurt and pain. Guys needed to look at the real girl, to really get to know her.
I met Violet on the opening day of ‘The Posy Bowl’ where I quickly became her guide and her pillar of support. I would tell her where the best-kept secrets were for local quality products, the places to get those best flowers with the quality associated with a high-end store, all thanks to those endless trips with my grandmother, Daisy before she retired from the industry. Violet became the new florist after her departure and my addiction. With the support of the loss of daily work from Daisy, Violet helped me through.
Our friendship quickly grew from there! We had
