to be happening. The only way I know it’s real, I can still smell him on my clothes.
“Can you actually fall for someone that you just met and hardly know?” I ask out loud. Rolling over I pick up the photo on my nightstand. Running my finger along the tattered wedding photo of my parents in the wooden frame I keep by my bed, I remember the conversations I had with my mom hearing her voice inside my head.
“Coraline, one day you will find someone that will electrify your heart with just one touch. Just like your daddy did to me, just like he still does to this day.”
“You really think so, Momma?” I ask as she brushed my hair humming her favorite song.
“Yes, baby girl, I do and when it happens, a spark will light inside of you that will ignite your soul. When that happens hold on tight to it, sweetie. Because only a true love can conquer everything.”
Wiping away the tears from my cheeks, I kiss her picture. “I miss you guys,” I whisper, placing the photo back on the table. Trying to ignore the tiny ping of sadness I get when I look at their photo, knowing that they are together is the only reason I am able to get up and start my day.
Parking the truck, I head up to the front of the restaurant.
“So, you must have a lot of explaining to do.” B greets me at the door, pointing down to the ground. Sitting in a beautiful rose-colored vase by the door are the most beautiful wildflowers I’ve ever seen. Stunned by them I just stare unable to reply.
“Let’s chat over coffee before people arrive, I’ve already opened the place, so we have a few minutes,” she tells me as she carries the flowers inside placing them on the counter.
“They are magnificent, aren’t they?” I ask not really needing a response.
The sunflowers are the most beautiful shade of goldenrod yellow, that stand out next to the vibrant purples, pinks, and greens. I couldn’t help but be mesmerized by them, running the petals through my fingers and inhaling deep the fragrance a mixture of honey and baby powder. Finding the card tucked away in the flowers, I can feel the excitement rise inside me as I turn the card over. Written in surprisingly neat yet familiar handwriting was the simplest yet most heartfelt note.
Thinking of you.
Completely engrossed in those three little words, I didn’t even hear Brenna’s footsteps.
“Soooo, what did he say?” she asks with a smirk.
I pull the card closer to my chest. “Nothing,” I say, trying to hide my smile.
“Okay but I do have something to tell you.” I look at her quizzically.
“I don’t want you to come in tomorrow, you have plans but don’t even ask I am not telling you anything,” she says, winking as she leaves the room.
Grabbing my cell, I search for the only name that has been front and center in my mind, scrolling down I find his name.
Cora – Thank you, the flowers are magnificent. When did you find them and bring them? I stare at the message before I hit send.
Instantly butterflies wreak havoc in my stomach when I hear the chime of my phone and I see his name on the screen.
Kelly –Hello, beautiful, you’re welcome. I stopped by early this morning. I couldn’t help getting them, they made me think of you.
Placing my phone back in my apron I head to start my day. Unable to stop thinking about what tomorrow brings. The day rushes by and next thing I know it’s lunchtime.
“Here,” I say, sliding a plate in front of Brenna. I knew today was going to be insanely busy since it’s the start of tourist season. Not to mention Valentine’s Day has us prepping like crazy and we are always booked for that evening. After the day was done, I headed out looking at my phone, I had forgot that it went off earlier. Looking down at it, I smile as I read the message.
Kelly – Hey, beautiful, I hope your day is going well. I have a full day of things to do before tomorrow. I hope I get to see you tonight?
Instantly, I reply back.
Cora – Hey, my day was so busy. I am so sorry it took me so long to reply. Can I get a hint about tomorrow and I really hope I get to see you tonight as well? Being brave I attach a selfie and
