exactly what the hurry was.
I knew how quickly those things moved and fuck, I was not going to waste a single second in getting away. I leapt up step after step, the sound of the Sirens running after me followed by another roar.
Fuck this. I needed to get back to the library. Maybe Sin was there by now. Maybe I was chasing him in circles and risking my own neck for fucking nothing. But I couldn’t lead this monster there so I passed by level six with a curse, planning to hide on level five in the gym until the Belorian moved on before returning to the library.
Someone collided with me and I was shoved off of the stairs onto level five and I growled as the Siren surged ahead of me and my knees hit the floor. I got to my feet as the other Siren flew past me and I glanced back, coming face to face with two Belorians, their jaws wet with venom and their eyeless faces trained on me.
The one on the left released a high pitched shriek, racing forwards and I turned tail and fled, adrenaline crashing through me as I ran for my fucking life towards the gym doors. The other Belorian charged past me, leaving me to the mercy of its friend as it hunted the two Sirens.
"Come on Colin!" one of the guys roared, but Colin was knocked to the ground by a vicious swipe of the Belorian's front legs. His terrified screams were cut off as a mouth of serrated teeth clamped down over his head and sickness churned my gut.
I don't die like this. Not like this!
The Belorian chasing me swiped at my head the same way its companion had just done to Colin and I ducked, skidding across the floor to get away. Sharp talons slammed into the ground by my leg, slicing through my jumpsuit and pinning me in place. I twisted away, trying to rip the leg of my suit as another clawed foot slammed down in front of me, caging me between its legs. I took the lemon from my pocket, but the Belorian knocked it from my hand before I could manage to slice it open.
A deep growl left its body and suddenly the beast swiped me up between its front legs, crushing me against its icily cold body. I punched and kicked and thrashed, expecting teeth to find my flesh at any moment and end me. But the beast turned and started running for the stairs instead, releasing low grunts as it moved. I kept fighting for my life, my fear making every punch powerful, but not enough to dent this vile creature's impenetrable flesh. I wouldn't give up though. I was not going to be dinner for this disgusting monster when my mate was waiting for me. And a whole life was waiting for us.
I held my breath as the guards' footsteps stalked away, both thanking and cursing Sin for the chaos he was causing upstairs by setting the fucking Belorian free again. Because I knew that had been him. From the moment I'd heard Cain sounding peppy over the guard’s radio, I'd known exactly who was up there setting the Belorian loose. Mason Cain had never been and never would be peppy a day in his fucking life. I was going to beat the shit out of that motherfucker when I saw him and then kiss the fuck out of him for happening to distract the guard who had almost found me while I hid in the shadows for so freaking long I’d lost count of the time. And that was time we didn’t have to spare.
I gave it to the count of thirty then slipped out of my hiding place, hugging the shadows at the side of the room as I ducked beneath a thick pipe which protruded from the side of the ipump 500 and sent the Order Suppressant - or antidote as the case now was - up into the main prison. Unfortunately for me, there weren't vents down here on the maintenance level because prisoners weren't supposed to be down here, so I was stuck in Fae form until I could get back up to the library and reclaim my inner Wolf.
I skirted the huge machine, hopped over a crate of cleaning supplies and dropped down on the other side, but as I landed, my boot connected with a metal bucket and the damn thing fell to the
