– I barely even knew him, so he was just going to have to suck it up if he didn't like it. Or make a play to lock me down if he wanted me to stop. He stalked away without another word and Sin sighed dramatically as the rest of us turned to follow.
Cain stayed close on our heels like a snarling bulldog, making sure that first Ethan and then Sin headed into their cell blocks before marching me and Roary back to ours. But as Roary crossed the bridge to head inside, Cain caught my arm and tugged me back.
"We need to have a word, Twelve," he growled, his fingers digging in as he nodded to Officer Rind to make sure that Roary didn’t attempt to follow us.
"I really have no interest in-" Cain whipped me off of my feet for the second time tonight and I cursed as he raced away through the prison.
When he reached the door to the isolation unit, I sucked in a breath of dread and began kicking and yelling, trying to fight my way out of his arms as he unlocked the heavy door and stepped inside.
Cain shot through the space between the cells and all the way along to the stairs which led down to the maintenance level below. When he finally set me back down on my feet again, I was trembling with rage and fear and I backed up a step before spitting on the floor at his feet.
"Pezzo di merda," I snarled. Piece of shit.
Cain arched a brow at me and then lifted his radio from his belt and called the warden.
"The prison is clear, release the Belorian," he said calmly and I shot a look at his watch, seeing as there wasn’t a clock down here for me to check, taking note of the time. An hour. Almost exactly. That was how long we would have from the beginning of the riot until they set the beast loose to hunt down stragglers.
"Have you even taken the count?" I asked as he hung the radio back on his belt and surveyed me cautiously.
"No. In the event of a riot, we disband the troublemakers and send them all back to their cell blocks and then we lock the doors and set the Belorian loose while we do the count," he said with a dark smile. "Anyone foolish enough to have hidden from the guards will find themselves prey to the monster that roams the halls."
"Nice to know you're so concerned about that," I snipped.
"I don't know how many times this needs to be made clear to you, Twelve, but no one cares about you down here. We don't care if you kill each other, we don't care if the Belorian eats you, we don't care if you kill yourselves. You're nothing but a burden on society and it's up to you to Fae up and survive this place until your term is over, not ours to babysit you. We are here to make sure none of you escape, not to worry ourselves about whether or not you live full and happy lives. You lost that right the moment you were sentenced."
"Fine. So why do I now have the displeasure of your company while the Belorian roams the halls?" I drawled, folding my arms.
"Because I know you were up to something tonight. I don't believe the story about the four of you meeting up to fuck in a corridor. And I'm getting really fucking sick of your lies. So I want the truth. Why were you down there after I specifically told you to go back to your cell?"
I pursed my lips, wanting to tell him that he could shove his questions up his ass, but he was taking far too much interest in me all the damn time and I needed to give him something. Something real, too, because I knew I'd already passed his threshold for my bullshit.
"Come here," I said, holding my hand out to him and he eyed it like it was laced with poison.
"Why?"
"Because I need to show you, or you won’t believe me." I tilted my head so that my hair fell forward over my shoulder and he reluctantly moved into my personal space.
I smirked at him as I took his hand and lifted it to my face before tracing his fingers over the moon mark behind my ear.
"What is that?" he asked.
"If two equally matched Wolves fuck beneath a full moon, then the moon
