like I’d thought about every time he walked past me with one of his serious scowls. Mmm yeah, Cain worked out and I was here for it.
I pushed one lemon into my pocket and lengthened my lil Vampy fangs before taking a bite out of the other one, the juices dribbling down my chin. Rosalie wasn't the only one who lusted after Cain in this place. And I'd had a dirty dream or two about him myself, so taking his form was as easy as taking nuts from a Squirrel Shifter – you just had to slap ‘em a few times and they gave them up.
I punched in the number for level seven and started descending through the prison, rubbing the lemon juice on any exposed skin I had before leaning down and shoving the half eaten lemon into Rind’s mouth.
“Delicious, thank you Officer Cain,” I imitated his voice with a smirk then stood upright and clasped my hands behind my back all formal like.
When the doors opened, I pressed the button for the guards' quarters to send Rindipoos up to his friends then strolled on out into the corridor, gazing at the beautiful sight before me. The door to the Belorian's cage.
I smiled widely, striding toward it like a cocky asshole, revelling in the sensation of being a big man in this prison. It felt good. I wasn't surprised the guards walked around this place like their balls were made of solid gold if they felt this powerful all the time.
"Hello beasty," I purred at the door, excitement trickling through me as I prepared to put my Vampy strength to fun use and rip that collar from its neck.
Rosalie and I had our own secret language. And she'd clearly wanted more chaos tonight to keep the guards busy. I was more than happy to supply that, especially when she'd asked me to do it so plainly. A no from her was a secret yes to me. And she’d really impressed how much she needed me to do this. Yup, we wouldn’t get out of Darkmore without my help. No siree.
I took Rind's radio from my hip, twirling it between my fingers before bringing it my mouth, clearing my throat then pressing the call button. "Code brown! Release the Belorian! Release it now!"
I headed out of my room in sweatpants and a t-shirt, figuring I’d grab something to eat and get an early night. I’d taken two shifts in a row and though it helped to keep me distracted from the curse, I was only Fae and I needed to sleep eventually. I headed down to the rec area and frowned as I found that some fucking lazy asshole had left their baton and radio on the coffee table. Was it really that hard to put them back in their fucking locker?
"Repeat the order, Cain, static on the line," Lyle's voice came across the radio, sounding frantic.
What the fuck?
"I said code brown! Release the Belorian, release it fucking now!" My own voice sounded in reply and I turned to stone, trying to work out how that was possible. And what the fuck was going on. Code brown? There was no code brown.
I snatched the radio from the table as my heart thundered and I pressed the button. "Hold that order," I barked at Lyle.
"Sir?" his voice came down the line. "You want me to hold it?"
"Yes," I snapped, but my voice didn't make it through as the other fucker impersonating me held their call button down and kept the line open on their end, shutting me out.
"Yes, release it, release it!" he demanded sounding far too peppy to actually be me, but he was either doing one hell of an impersonation or – or-
“Release it!” he begged again.
"Fuck," I snapped, holding my own call button down as I tried to stop Lyle before it was too late. "Don't release it!" But I wasn't getting through, the fucker was still blocking the line.
Fear pumped through me, spreading into every bone in my body.
I cursed and shot down the hallways to the security office, shoving it open and finding Lyle sitting in front of the CCTV screens across the wall.
"Lyle!" I barked. "That wasn't me on the radio.”
"It wasn't?" he gasped.
“No, please tell me you didn’t release the Belorian,” I growled, but the paleness of his face gave me his answer even before he said it.
“I’m sorry, I-I let it out,” he stammered, sweat beading on his brow.
“Then use the collar to
