like his father, it won’t be just a simple exchange.
Violet keeps asking about her sister. She wants to call her or send her some kind of message to let her know that she is okay. I have been trying to avoid the subject at all costs, but she is getting more insistent every day and I don't know how much longer I can keep up the act.
I sigh heavily staring down at her, thinking of the way her face will look when I tell her that her sister is gone. That Rossi killed her. I don’t want to hurt her. Fuck, it’s the very last thing I want to do. I don’t want to ruin how happy we are right now, but there’s no way around it, she’s going to force my hand. She’s going to make me tell her and there won’t be anything I can do to stop the hurt from taking up space in her fragile heart.
Roman walks into the living room, his eyes moving from me and then to Violet as he takes a bite of his sandwich. At first, I worried that Violet and Roman would continue to butt heads, but after he saved her life that night, something changed inside him. It was almost like he saw her as a little sister.
“You can’t avoid Xander forever. He’s not the kind of man you want to cross.”
I roll my eyes at his words. “You say that like you’ve met his father.” I cock a brow.
“I haven’t, no, but I can tell you that Xander’s been far more patient with you than he has with anyone else I know. He’s given you time but if you don’t talk to him, he will come for you, and that’s not something you want to happen.”
Roman doesn’t seem scared, or even concerned really. He just kind of acts nonchalant about the whole thing, like it’s just another damn day in the office when really, it’s not.
“I know,” I growl under my breath. “I just... I need to protect her and getting involved with Xander is going to put her right in the line of gunfire.”
Roman nods as if he understands but he’s never been in love before, he’s never carried his heart in someone else’s body, praying nothing happens to them.
“I don’t even know what exactly he fucking wants from me.” I’m guessing he wants information on his father, since they have been actively trying to kill him for a while, but I don’t know Xander and I’d rather not deal with him at all.
“Only one way to find out, I guess.” Roman shrugs and takes another bite of his sandwich before he strolls out of the room.
Violet stirs beside me and stretches her body with a quiet moan just like a kitten. My Kitten.
“Hey, Sleeping Beauty,” I murmur.
She smiles, crawling over to me, before settling into my lap. “I don’t know why I’ve been so lazy lately. I’m always tired.” She yawns directly in my face, and it’s adorable as hell.
“Don’t worry about it. Sleep all you want as long as you are next to me…or on top of me…or under me, or I’m inside you.” I wiggle my eyebrows at her, feeling my cock harden. I want her, but who am I kidding? I always fucking want her.
“I’m sensing a pattern,” she giggles. “Or maybe I feel lazy because I’m actually being lazy. I really haven't left the house much, not unless it’s to go to the gym with you and Roman or grocery shopping. It’s been a month of hiding. Do you really think they are still looking for us?”
“I don't know, Kitten. Rossi really isn’t the kind of man to just let stuff go. Taking you put a target on my back. He lost money because of me, and then there's the fact that I betrayed him and all of his men. No amount of time is ever going to make him forget what I did. The only way he’ll forget is when he dies, and even then, his men will seek out revenge.”
I already know where Violet is going to go with this, and my mood darkens accordingly. She still doesn’t fucking get it. She doesn’t understand, and I don’t know how to explain it to her without hurting her, without destroying everything we have built.
She sticks her chin out, and her blue eyes flicker with defiance. “I won’t stay here in this house forever, Ivan. I want to be a normal person, start
