smartened up pretty early and made sure to always have some sort of chocolate bar on me to give them as a peace offering so that I wouldn’t become their sacrifice to Lucifer or whoever seems to inhabit their bodies for those few days.”
The four of us burst out laughing at the picture that he’s setting.
Jameson just shakes his head at us. “You think it’s funny. But have you ever been near four women who all seem to get their period at the exact same time?” I nod my head because yes I have, and it isn’t pretty. “It just ain’t right. My sister Alisha actually growled, like a damn feral dog, at me because I was standing too close to her chocolate cake. I thought that she was actually going to bite me when all I was doing was just trying to get a banana.”
“Damn kid, that’s rough.” Edge states with pity shining in his eyes.
Jameson shrugs again like a little kid. “It’s not all that bad. It’s really helped with my training to be honest.”
Stacey giggles. “How could that possibly help with your training?” Her eyes are dancing while looking at him. I’d be a liar if I said that her looking so happy because of him didn’t make me a little jealous. But at the same time, I missed the way her eyes sparkle like diamonds when she’s happy. I love that look on her, even if it’s someone else putting it there.
Jameson taps his index finger on his lips making us all smirk even more. How this goofball is such a great fighter is a mystery. “Well, I make sure to be up at four in the morning so that I don’t even take the chance of running into one of Lucifer’s minions. That means that I get an early start on training and make sure that I spend the entire doing just that. When I get home, I usually look and feel so drained that they have pity on me and leave me alone long enough to eat and hightail it up to my room.”
“You all still live together?” Edge questions. But he’s right, they’re all obviously in their twenties now and would usually have their own places.
Jameson gnaws on his lip and looks a little apprehensive for the first time. He clears his throat. “My mom was a single mom and raised us all on her own after our dad left her for someone younger that he worked with. And since they were never married she didn’t get anything. She never even really got child support on the regular. So, she worked her tail off to take care of us. Sometimes working two jobs, three during the holidays, since she wanted them to be special for us. But a few years ago, Mom got diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. It makes it really difficult for her to even do the most mundane tasks and working is pretty much out of the question. My sisters and I decided that we would all continue to stay with her, that way we could all chip in and take care of the bills and her.” His face looks like someone just threw a tomato on it. He’s squirming around in what seems to be embarrassment. Although I don’t see why, if anything I respect him tenfold now.
“That’s nothing to be embarrassed about J. If anything, you should be really proud.” I pause when a thought hits me. “That’s why you work so hard, isn’t it? Why you’re so determined to make it big?”
His cheek quirks. “Yes and no. I want to make it for myself, but I won’t lie and say that the money would be really helpful. I’d like to buy my mom a nice house and hire someone to be with her when my sisters and I can’t.” He tugs on his ear. “Plus, I’m sure my sisters will want to go out on their own and maybe settle down with someone eventually. It’d be nice to make sure that they’re financially set too. They’re great big sisters, even if they did love to torment me when we were younger. I love them and just want to try to give them all the best life possible. All four of them deserve nothing less.”
It’s funny that I’ve never realized that despite his boyish looks, his eyes have the wisdom of someone beyond his years. I’m guessing this poor kid had to grow up way before he should’ve.
“But I’m
