her head, almost no makeup, and clothes that leave very little to the imagination.
“I’m going to need you to bail me out of jail for murder today.” I mutter to Edge who is standing right beside me.
He’s here getting a workout in and I decided to come down from my office to shoot the shit with him for a little while. Okay fine, I’m being a pathetic sack of shit who is avoiding all of the paperwork that I’m supposed to be doing. With my arm still on the mend, I can’t do much more than that around here. I am even considering bribing my girls to come in and do it all for me, without telling Sage obviously. Her ass would never let me live that down. She was downright gleeful when she dropped a huge stack of paperwork on my desk this morning. Knowing her evil ass she probably added more than is even necessary just to screw with me.
I put nothing past that woman. Look at who she raised. My girls are the light of my life but damn do they have an evil streak a mile long. I know damn well that they got that from their momma. I’m obviously the even tempered one out of us.
Edge pauses mid punch when he hears my words. He lowers his gloved hands and stares at me. “I’m not really sure if you get bail for murder. What’s got your nuts in a twist today?”
I tilt my head in Stacey’s direction. “The outfit she’s wearing is going to make me do something stupid, I just know it. Sage will let you know where my checkbook is.”
“Why not just have her bail you out then?” He asks while staring intently at the two women. Hmmm, that doesn’t seem right. His whole body looks as if he’s fighting with himself to stand still.
“You know that she would take way too much enjoyment in that. No need to give her anything else to fuck with me about.” I eye him speculatively for a moment. “You okay man? You look like you’re two seconds away from charging over there. I know why I’m feeling like that.” I end my sentence there giving him a minute to either come clean or lie.
He gives me an incredulous look. “I’m not looking at your woman.”
My lips twitch. “I didn’t say you were. No, I think that you happen to be looking at Kealy.”
“How do you know her?” He growls deceptively low. Only an idiot wouldn’t hear the warning.
“She was my nurse when Stacey magically disappeared.” I rub my hand across my chin. “I didn’t realize that they were friends though.”
I can see him deflate a bit at my words. He luckily no longer looks too homicidal. “I’m guessing that since they are friends, that Kealy probably took you as a patient on purpose.”
I raise my eyebrow. “Why do you say that?”
He licks his lips before he chews on the bottom one. I’ve never seen him look so apprehensive before. “Lets just say that she isn’t someone who likes to be near men, especially one your size. My guess is, that she did it to be a good friend so that Stacey wouldn’t shank any of the other nurses.”
“You know Kealy?”
“In a way.” He evades.
“She’s the one that you meant the other day. About being able to wait for the right one.”
His eyes are lasered onto mine. “Something like that.”
I can’t help the small smile. “Does she know?”
“She knows that I exist.”
I look over at my friend in shock. “Tell me that you haven’t been stalking her.” He just blinks blankly at me. “Edge, what the fuck man?” I hiss lowly.
“Calm your tits. It’s not like I’m peeking into her windows at night like a creepy bastard.” He removes his gloves before scratching the back of his head. “If I just happen to volunteer my time at the same woman’s shelter that she does, then so be it.”
“That’s it?” I ask dubiously.
“I may or may not have a few brothers from the club follow her home in a cage every now and again to make sure that she gets home safely.” His cheek twitches. “We also seem to like to frequent the same restaurants.”
“You ever met that cop Damon?” I ask seriously.
“Not really, why?”
“I have a feeling that you and him would get along real well.” I drawl and watch his eyes narrow.
“Cops and bikers don’t really mix.”
“You two would.” I mutter before focusing in on the
