to Destin, I smiled and held up my receipt. “We won.”
He laughed. “Wonderful. I didn’t even have to beat up old ladies, so I’m going to call that a successful battle.”
Since one of those women just whacked the salesman with her handbag, I’d have to agree with him. “Okay, let’s go wander back by the lamps and stuff to see if there’s anything else we need.”
Still grinning ear to ear, Destin stood. “How about I go grab one of those carts? If we find dishes here, we’ll need it.”
“Good idea.” I pointed toward the lamps farther back in the store. “I’m going to head that way before those ladies finish duking it out.”
Nodding and taking the entire thing very seriously, Destin headed toward the carts at the front of the store. We’d already been to several smaller stores but hadn’t found much and this was our last secondhand store before moving over into the regular ones.
I had the money for the name-brand stores, but I knew my dollar would stretch further here. Since I didn’t care if someone had eaten off the plates before or had sat on the couch, I was hoping I wouldn’t have to go anywhere else.
By the time Destin came back over with the cart, I had a floor lamp for the living room and several for the bedroom. Whoever had built the apartments had been stingy with the lights and each room only had a single-bulb light fixture on the ceiling. It was driving me crazy.
“Those are great.” He glanced around at the shelf. “Should we grab one for Morgan too?”
I went back and forth on that one several times. “Do you think it will be too pushy?”
“Aww, you’re trying to be nice.” He lifted one hand and placed it on my forehead. “No fever. Have you been abducted by aliens?”
“Pick out a lamp, funny man.” He grinned as he picked out two matching black lamps that were plain but not ugly or broken. “Great. If he hates them, I’ll pick out new shades and put them in the kitchen.”
“That would be really cute.” He cheerfully set them in the cart. “I can’t wait until I can talk Ray and Avery into buying a house for the three of us. Then we’ll get to decorate it.”
My first thought was to tell him to slow down, but I knew I’d be wasting my breath. Everything I’d read on BDSM and the…subjects he was fascinated with said that those types of relationships could move a lot faster. So far Ray and Avery hadn’t done anything I could find objectionable or that had hurt Destin, so I wasn’t going to step in between them.
“They both have very different styles and needs. I think you should be careful and not rush them. I know they love you and that it’s working out well right now, but be careful.” So maybe I could have found a more positive way to say it, but Destin beamed.
“I knew you liked them.” He reached out and patted my shoulder. “It’s okay. I’ll make sure to take care of them.”
I had a feeling he’d taken my comments in a very Destin type of way.
I really didn’t have a good response to that. “I trust that you will.”
He was still grinning as he shoved both me and the cart down the aisle. “Let’s go find you some dishes so you can take care of your new roomie.”
“I’m not taking care of Morgan.” I rolled my eyes as Destin giggled.
The brat actually patted me on the head. “Of course you’re not.”
I was starting to forget why bringing him along had seemed like such a good idea…oh wait, that’s right, it hadn’t been my idea to begin with.
Chapter 4
Morgan
I almost felt guilty…almost.
But as I locked the door and quietly walked back over to my toys, I remembered that I hadn’t even told Stan about my little side. He’d actually been into BDSM and he hadn’t understood, so why would Leon?
Even if Destin seemed open-minded and there was something going on with his partners, Leon definitely didn’t give off the same vibes.
Stretching back out on the floor, I pulled my bucket from underneath the bed. Asking me about the furniture had been nice, but I hated that I’d had to scramble to put my toys away. I wasn’t going to take the chance of him even accidentally coming into my room and seeing them scattered around on the floor.
But I had to remind myself that I had an
