accept, please respond yes. And we’ll set something up.”
I grinned at his email. I knew he was emailing because I’d never responded to his text message. Oh yeah, Lucas. I was definitely going to go on a second date with him. I closed the email without responding though. I didn’t want to look too eager. And then I scroll down to Pierre’s. I opened it, read it quickly again and sighed. “Okay. You ready, Sarah?”
“Yeah, I’m ready. But I feel a little bit nervous to hear it,” she said with a smile in her voice. “You sound like you are already not feeling him.”
“Well, just listen to the email and tell me your thoughts. Okay?”
“Okay. Sure.”
“Okay, here goes.”
“Hi there, Gemma. Looking forward to our evening tonight. I would like to request you to wear high heels. At least two inches, open toe, black. If you don’t have black, red will do. Please also wear stockings of opaque variety.” I paused.
“Uh oh,” Sarah said. “He’s a toe freak.”
“Oh my God. That’s your initial thought, right?”
“Yeah. He’s into feet or toes or whatever,” she laughed. “Definitely.”
“Oh my God. That’s what I was thinking as well. Who are you to tell me what sorts of shoes to wear?”
“So you’re not going to go on a date with him?”
“Girl, I’m not interested in dating a guy who has a foot fetish. No, I don’t need or want you sucking on my big toe every night.”
“Oh, Gemma. Oh my God, hahaha.”
“It’s true. That’s what those guys with feet fetish want to do. They just want to touch your feet all the time and then they want to suck on your toes. Shit, they want to suck on your toes more than they want to suck on your...” I pause. “Okay, don’t let me be crude. But yeah, I’m just not feeling this. And plus, Lucas just asked me out on a second date. So, you know what, I would rather just set something up with him than see what this French dude is like. I haven’t even had a pedicure recently.”
“Yeah, that sounds fair,” she said. “Oh, so then if you don’t go out with Pierre, who will your next date be?”
“I’m not sure, actually. I think that music guy wants to go to the jazz concert or something tomorrow night. So, that should be fun.”
“Oh yeah. That sounds like it will be awesome. Are you into jazz, though? I thought you were into Justin Bieber.”
“Justin Bieber? Who do you think I am? I’m not seventeen years old.”
“Oh. For some reason, I thought you loved him.”
“Well, I can’t lie. I definitely have some of his songs, but no, I love Ed Sheeran.”
“Oh yeah. Because Ed Sheeran is so much better than Justin Bieber.” She laughed.
“Shh. Sarah, don’t make me feel like I’m a Philistine when it comes to music taste.”
“You’re not a Philistine. Maybe this new guy will broaden your horizons with some new music. What was his name again?”
“Connor. His name is Connor. And yeah, you know what? I am looking forward to that. Thanks, girl. I think I’m just going to go and finish some work and I’m going to cancel this date with Pierre. I’m not interested in any guy who is going to tell me what sort of shoes to wear.”
“Sounds good. Have a great evening.”
“Thanks, bye girl.” I hung up the phone and then sat down on the couch. It felt weird, not having anywhere to go after getting all dressed up. I’d been looking forward to this dinner all evening. Well, that wasn’t necessarily true. I’d been looking forward to telling Lucas about the fact that I’d gone on another date with a handsome French guy, more than I was looking forward to the date with Pierre. So I guess that told me all I needed to know. Lucas was definitely my number one, even though I’d only met him once. I was looking forward to meeting Connor as well. I mean, he seemed like he’d be a nice guy, even though I wasn’t really into musicians, but hey, maybe he would surprise me. I quickly sent a message through the dating app, to Pierre, letting him know that unfortunately I was no longer going to be able to join the date. And then I responded to Lucas.
Gemma: Hey Lucas, having a great day. Been thinking about you since last night. Our little flirtation has been so much fun. Would love to do it again. Gemma.
