my friend that I’d go to a party with her too. You know, my friend Sarah, the one you met,” I lied. I don’t know why I lied, but I just couldn’t tell him it was for another guy. “But maybe I can split my time between both of your parties? See both of you?”
“Okay.” He nodded. “Whatever you think you can do. But I’d really love to see you that night, okay?”
“Okay.”
“You promise you’ll come?” he said with a smile.
“I’ll be there, Connor. Don’t worry about it.” And then he kissed me again, a reward for agreeing to go to his New Year’s Eve party. I held him tight and tried to ignore the thoughts in my brain that were telling me I was on a collision course to a bad, terrible accident. How the hell was I going to go to two New Year’s Eve parties on one night? How the hell was I going to see Lucas and Connor on the same night? This wasn’t just meeting them for drinks and a double date. This was two guys I was now intimate with wanting to see me on the same night, and I didn’t know what both of them were going to want or expect. I knew I was in for trouble, but I didn’t care. I was a good girl gone bad, and I was not ashamed of what I was doing. I was loving it. I was loving every single minute of it and I’d continue loving it until I no longer could.
Chapter 30
I waved goodbye to Connor as he dropped me off at my apartment. He’d wanted to come up, but I told him I just needed some time alone to think and be by myself. He’d looked slightly sad but I think he’d understood. A lot had happened between us in the last day, we’d made love at least five, six times, and my body was sore all over. I just needed to take a bath by myself, relax and decompress.
I made my way to my apartment, opened the door and walked in, immediately trying to call Sarah. I needed to talk to her. I needed to hear my friend’s voice to tell me that I wasn’t the biggest slut in the world.
“Hey, Gemma.” Sarah sounded breathless, unlike herself, and I frowned.
“Is everything okay?”
“Yeah, sorry I was just...” She paused and giggled. “Anyway, I’ll tell you later. What’s going on?”
“I just got home from my night with Connor.”
“Oh, wow. How was it? Oh, hold on,” she said, and I could hear her whispering fiercely to someone. This was so unlike her. I had no idea what was going on. “Hey, Gemma.”
“Yeah?”
“Can I call you back?”
“Um, sure. Is everything okay, Sarah?”
“Yeah,” she said. “It’s just... remember I told you about the proposition.”
“Yeah, what is that by the way?”
“I can’t talk about it right now, but I’ll tell you later, okay?” And she hung up the phone. Never in my life had Sarah and I had a conversation like this. Anytime I needed to talk she was usually available and she certainly never rushed off the phone.
I walked into my living room and sat down. What the hell was going on? For a few seconds, I realized that I was an awful friend, I was no better than Harry. I was always going to Sarah with my problems and my issues but I had no idea what the hell was going on in her life. Who had propositioned her and why? What the frig was going on right now. I quickly text her to make sure she was okay. Gemma: Everything okay, I’m worried?
She responded right away.
Sarah: Sorry girl, I’m just in a crazy situation but I’m sure you know how easy it is to fall into those. Promise I’ll tell you more soon. Kiss kiss.
Gemma: Crazy good or crazy bad?
Sarah: Both.
Huh. I put my phone down on the couch and stood up and walked to the kitchen. I was hungry. Connor had made me breakfast before we left but that had been hours ago. I needed something more substantial than pancakes. I had a craving for fried chicken but I didn’t really want to fry anything in the house right now. I decided to order some takeaway and get it delivered.
I groaned as I walked back to the living room to grab my phone to order the food. Lucas had texted me two more times and I just didn’t know what to say to
