spend the rest of my life loving you. I want to spend the rest of my life figuring out what makes you tick, what makes you smile, what makes you scream my name. Don’t you understand?
“I want to spend the rest of my life figuring out who you are, Gemma, and making you happy. Because that would make me happy. I want to marry you one day, and I want to have a family, not just because I know that’s something you want, but because I want it too. I know it goes against everything that I’ve said up until now, but it’s what’s in my heart, and I’ve always said to you you have to go with what’s in your heart. You have to go with what you feel, and if you feel that way about me, if you even feel a half about me what I feel about you, then I think we’re blessed. I think we’re lucky to have found each other.”
“Oh, Connor. I love you so much.” I leaned over and kissed him on the lips. “I never thought anything like this would ever happen to me. I never thought I’d meet someone like you. I never thought we’d be here in this moment and you’d be telling me that you love me too.”
“I never thought we’d be in a situation like this either.” He laughed and stroked my hair. “I love you, Gemma.”
“I love you too, Connor.”
And then because even the most perfect of moments had to have an interruption, there was a knock on the door. “Gemma,” Lucas said. “Are you feeling better now?” I looked at Connor and I made a face. “Gemma, I’m going to have to break down this door if you don’t open it because I’m getting worried now,” Lucas said. “And, well, I’d rather not break down the door because it costs a lot of money, so if you could open it.”
“One second, Lucas,” I said and looked at Connor. “What should I do?”
“Don’t worry about it,” he said, and he stood up and he walked over to the door and opened it.
“What are you doing in here?” Lucas said, frowning. He glanced over his brother’s shoulder at me. “Why is Connor in here? What’s going on?”
“Um, I can explain.” I stood up and I walked over to Connor. Connor gave me a look and I stopped.
“Lucas, you need to leave right now,” Connor said, eyeing his brother. “Gemma and I are talking.”
“What do you mean, Gemma and you are talking? And just exactly how do you know each other?” Lucas said with a frown. “I’m kind of confused here. Why is my brother in the room and you wouldn’t let me in the room? Um, Gemma, can you explain?”
“Um,” I said, not knowing how to explain. What did you tell a guy that you’d been kind of dating that you now wanted to dump? Like, how did you tell him that, “Oh, by the way, I was also seeing your brother on the side. And you know why I didn’t want to sleep with you is because I kind of was more attracted to him and sleeping with him.” Yeah, you didn’t say that. I stood there mute, waiting and hoping that Connor would say something.
“She’s with me now, Lucas.”
“What the fuck are you talking about, Connor?” Lucas’ eyes narrowed. “What do you mean she’s with you?”
“I said Gemma is with me, and if you don’t take a step back and lower your voice when you’re talking to her, we’re going to have a problem.” Connor’s voice was low and I shivered. That was definitely a threat.
“Okay, what the fuck is going on here, Connor?” Lucas said. “I don’t understand what you’re talking about. I was just with Gemma on Christmas Eve and, well, we were having a lot of fun. So I don’t know what is going on here, but who the fuck do you think you are to come into this room with a girl that I’m seeing and tell me to back off?”
“Lucas, I’m not going to tell you one more time.”
“Tell me what?” Lucas said. And the next thing I knew, Connor was punching Lucas in the face, and Lucas was falling backward. I gasped in shock as I saw Lucas stumbling, and then he looked at me and at Conner. “Okay. This is just too fucking crazy. Shit, you can do whatever you want, Connor. She doesn’t even put out, okay? She’s not
