I believe she?s telling the truth.?
?I wonder where her pack is. Surely they?re looking for her. I am to call Kasimir later. He?s deciding if we should bring her back to our pack to sort things out or if we should stay in the area and investigate what happened.?
Jane heard their footsteps moving toward the room and hurried across the room to sit on the bed. Fritz gave the door a questioning look as he stepped inside, probably noticing that it hadn?t been shut all the way and wondering if they?d left it open. Dirk came in behind him and sat down on the bed next to her. ?How are you feeling?? he asked sympathetically. ?Does your head hurt??
Jane nodded. ?Yes. I think I need to lie down.?
Dirk stood and pulled back the covers where he?d been sitting, then fluffed the pillow. ?This is my bed. You can have it and I?ll take the couch.?
?No, I don?t want to put you out, I can sleep on the couch.?
?Nonsense,? he replied. ?You?re going to take the bed and you?re not going to argue about it.?
Jane smiled at the teasing tone in his voice. She felt bad that he was giving up his bed for her. He was already doing so much. Well, his pack was. She was grateful that she wasn?t alone. What would she have done if Dirk?s Alpha hadn?t sent him to get her from the hospital? The hospital would have probably sent her off to be experimented on. Yes, she owed Dirk and his pack great appreciation.
She lie down on the bed and Dirk pulled the covers up over her. It was odd to see him act so attentive after the way he?d presented himself when she?d first met him.
?Does your head feel any better lying down?? he questioned.
?Yes, it already seems to feel a little better,? she answered.
Chapter 4
Jane slept unbelievably well that night and it surprised her. Hadn?t she gotten enough sleep in the hospital the past few days? She supposed that the fast healing process was the reason for her fatigue. Surely if your body could sew itself together so quickly, it would take a toll on your stamina.
Her head felt quite a bit better as well. It didn?t hurt at the moment, only felt heavy.
Voices had awoken her and she glanced around, finding Dirk and Fritz sitting at a table in front of the window, their voices low so not to wake her.
?Kasimir told me that we need to take her back to the scene of the accident. Maybe with any luck, it will jog her memory somehow.?
She saw concern furrow Dirk?s brow and he replied, ?We?ll need to keep a low profile. We don?t know if foul play was involved.?
Fritz nodded in agreement and they both glanced her direction.
?You?re awake,? Dirk said as he stood and moved to the bed. He sat down next to her and asked, ?How do you feel??
?I feel much better. But I need a shower,? she answered.
He nodded. ?Fritz and I have already showered, so the bathroom is all yours.?
?Quickly though.? Fritz spoke from his seat by the window. ?We need to get moving.?
Jane got out of bed slowly, afraid that her head would start throbbing as soon as she moved, but it didn?t. She grabbed the bags from the corner and placed them on the bed, then shrieked as something hit her. Dirk had thrown a duffle bag at her. ?Here, you can put your things in this.?
She positioned herself between Dirk and Fritz and the bags on the bed, not wanting them watching as she put her underwear inside. Once she had everything packed inside, she carried the bag to the bathroom and locked the door.
She turned the water on in the shower and stepped inside, reveling in the hot water as it washed over her skin. This was what she?d been needing to make herself feel better. She wasn?t sure why, but a shower always made her feel refreshed in so many ways.
As she lathered the shampoo in her hair, she remembered the stitches. How was she going to get them taken out? The men in the next room seemed to have connections, maybe they?d know someone who could do it.
When she?d finished showering, dressing, brushing her teeth and then her hair, she exited the bathroom feeling much more comfortable in a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. She sat down on the bed and pulled on a pair of socks and the sneakers she?d
