fine, I just want to be done here already. I miss home,” I tell him softly. My life has gone from snail pace to warp speed the last couple of months, and I can’t see any let up until we sort this bullshit with Archer.
“We’ll be home soon enough,” he murmurs, kissing the top of my head as the others sit down on the other chairs in here.
“You should try to rest, Angel. There’s no telling how long she’ll keep us waiting,” Levi says, looking me over with concern. I close my eyes at his words, knowing they’ll stay alert for any dangers, and let myself start to drift away into sleep.
“And here was me thinking you wanted to see me, Hunter.” I open my eyes at the raspy voice and see a copper haired, green eyed Demon I assume is Scarlett.
“Sorry, it’s been a day,” I say, standing to greet her, the guys following my lead. Her eyes dart to each of them, her smile growing as she moves from one to the next.
“What interesting company you keep, Hunter,” she says raising an eyebrow at me. “Please, come into my office and we’ll discuss your visit.”
I nod and follow her into her office. Levi takes my hand as I pass him, a look of unease on his face. “Maybe you should let one of us deal with her.”
“I’ll be fine,” I say, reaching up on tip toes and kissing his cheek. I keep my hand in his and enter the room Scarlett moved to, and the others file in behind me.
The room is not what I expected. A huge square room, that looks like any fancy pants legal office, one wall of glass, looking out over what I assume is the rest of this level. Out there, is more what I expected since we arrived here. Rivers of red running through dark rock, screams reaching us, even in here.
Scarlett sits behind the dark wood desk in the corner by the glass wall, undoing the button of her white blazer from her pantsuit as she does, exposing a lacy red bra beneath and nothing else. I school my features, refusing to rise to the bait.
“So, please, tell me how you found yourselves in the Shadow Realm,” she says leaning backwards and crossing her arms. It takes serious restraint not to roll my eyes as she pushes up her tits, but Roman barks a laugh, which he tries to smother with a cough. Apparently I’m too tired to hide my emotions from my face fully.
“We’re looking for someone,” Levi tells her, and I’m just tired enough that I don’t mind that he took the lead, despite me telling him I was fine. He sits in one of the chairs opposite her desk, and pulls me back into his lap, wrapping his arm around my waist as I get comfortable. Creek sits in the chair next to us, while Roman moves to stand by the door, and Kain moves to stand by the wall of glass, making sure the entire room is covered, should it need to be.
“Well, that doesn’t give me much detail, does it?” She purrs and I grit my teeth but say nothing.
“A Demon is working with a Hunter on Earth, I’m sure you’ve heard about it,” Levi taunts her, as if anyone of importance would be aware.
“I hadn’t heard that one yet, but then, my level tends to keep to itself,” she says, leaning forward and resting her elbows on her desk.
“Well, this Hunter requires a portal to be opened between the Shadow Realm on Earth—” Levi starts and she interrupts.
“But he’d need a Shadow Walker for that.” She eyes me as she says the words.
“Yes, well, the Hunter gave over a friend of ours to ensure our co-operation in helping him, we came here instead to get her ourselves,” Levi says. “We’re looking to find information on who is keeping her, or to get to the queen for her assistance.”
Her eyes go wide as she takes in what he says.
“Well, unfortunately for you all, I can’t help you with either of those things,” she says with a shrug. “I can let you pass to the next level.”
“But?” I ask, turning to face her and she grins.
“Clever Hunter. But… there is a cost, of course.”
“Of fucking course,” I grumble. “What is your cost?”
Man, why can’t more Demons be like Callie and Magnus. I know, I know, they’re Demons, but seriously!
“I want to feed,” she says simply as if
