my shields, and then I feel Morgan too. They both leave suddenly, and I reinforce my shield again as Morgan gasps beneath us.
I move away quickly as her guys move in around her as she comes back to us.
She sits up, letting them fuss over her for a minute, before she stands. “That’s enough, I'm absolutely fine you overprotective nuisances. Malik, you owe Mara a fucking apology, you, of all people, should know that she would never hurt me.” she scowls at him, and he looks like a scolded little boy, before turning to face me fully.
“Sorry, Mara,” he says, and Morgan puts her hands on her hips.
“That was dreadful,” she huffs and I laugh.
“It’s fine, honestly. You think these four would react any differently if it had been the other way around?” I tell her and her eyes flash.
“Maybe, but he damn near killed you. I felt it,” she says and the air ripples around us as my guys lose their cool. “Fucking men and their tempers.”
I turn to my guys, none of them are looking at me, it’s like a face-off between them and the Horsemen, and this is so not what we need. “Guys, I'm fine. I swear it.”
“Reel it in, boys,” Morgan says, and her Horsemen stand down.
I watch as Creek and Kain get a hold of themselves first, and they both give me a sheepish smile. Levi reels in his storm next, getting his power under control as I pull his gaze down to me. Once he's calmed, I move all of my attention to Roman while the rest of the room stills. His eyes glow, and the tips of his fingers are claws. I reach up a hand to his cheek, and I feel the lengthened teeth beneath.
“I'm okay, Roman,” I coo softly, and his eyes meet mine. “I'm not hurt anymore.”
That might be a tiny white lie, because my body still aches from hitting the wall, but I don't feel like I'm dying anymore at least.
It takes him longer than the others to get a grip on his wolf, but I wait, moving his hand to rest on my chest above my heart, so he can feel that I'm still here with him. His claws and teeth recede, but his eyes still glow. It's better than nothing, so I kiss his cheek softly too and then turn back to face Morgan.
“Well, that was certainly not how I expected this afternoon to go.” She laughs, and I can't help but laugh with her. “Now then, did you find anything of use while you were gone?” She asks, waving her arm the dining table reappears and she sits. I join her, and then everyone else sits down.
“No, we weren't gone long enough before Malik called for us,” Caleb says, shaking his head. “We'll go back out tomorrow, I think everyone needs to chill for the rest of today.”
“But we still don't know where Fallon is,” I argue. “It’s already taken us too long to get to this point. Every single level delayed us in some way, and now we've been here a few days too, while Fallon is suffering through fates only knows what.”
“I know you are worried about your friend, Mara. But Morgan needs to rest, and in her state, we don't feel comfortable leaving her on her own,” Caleb says softly.
“Then I'll go, I can't just do nothing.”
“You can and you will,” Bryce says firmly. “Throwing a tantrum isn't going to get you anywhere. You can't leave this circle without one of us, and now that you've all been here, you are even less safe out there than you were before.”
“Remy,” Creek says softly, taking my hand in his. “Fallon is strong, she will survive all of this, and come out of it stronger. I almost feel for whoever has her captive, because you just know she's making their life a living hell. One more night isn't going to make a difference at this point.”
“But it could,” I sigh. I look up to Morgan, and notice the dark circles under her eyes. I still don't know what happened, but she smiles at me softly.
“If anything happens to your friend, I can take those memories from her,” she tells us. “At least the worst of them.”
“Come on, Remy. You could probably use some down time too. I can tell you still hurt, even if you won't admit it,” Kain says softly.
“Fine, just fine.” I sigh. I'm not happy, not even a little, but if
