we can't leave without the Horsemen or Morgan, then really, there's dick all I can do anyway. I just don't fucking like it. It's yet another delay.
“Maybe we can spend the day exploring this power of yours too,” Levi says, looking between me and Caleb.
“You're probably the best equipped to help her,” Caleb says with a shrug. “But it’s powerful, regardless of what she says or feels. You'll see what I mean.”
I look between them, but realize that any input from me is futile.
“Then it's settled. We'll spend the rest of the day here so Remy and Morgan can relax, and then tomorrow, we'll finish the hunt,” Levi tells the room and there's a murmur of agreement from everyone except Morgan and I.
She looks at me and shrugs with a smile.
“Men.”
Chapter Twenty-Seven
Remy
After being released from the throne room, it didn’t take long for everyone to get antsy. Sitting around all day just isn’t something any of us are good at these days. So the others took off to explore this ring of the Shadow Realm, and other parts of the palace, while Kain stayed with me, fussing because yes I still hurt, and yes, Malik nearly killed me. I get it, I just hate the fuss.
“You really should eat something, Remy,” Kain says as he sits on the bed, facing me. I was told to lay the fuck down earlier, by the four of them growling at me, and being an immoveable wall of asshole until I climbed into bed. It was fun.
“I’m not hungry, we had a huge breakfast, and I’ve barely done anything since then. I just want to get out of bed. Do something, anything. I feel like I’m going to crawl out of my skin if I sit here doing nothing for much longer.”
He sighs and runs a hand through his hair. “You scared the fucking life out of me earlier, Remy. You couldn’t see yourself. But I will never be able to forget the sight of you after Malik…”
“I’m okay,” I tell him squeezing his hand.
“I know, but seeing you like that… I can’t ever see that again, so please, just let us fuss. I know it’s frustrating, but if you’d seen what we saw. I thought I was going to die, that I would tear apart this realm avenging you, but die happily, knowing I’d be reunited with you again.”
“Oh, Kain,” I sigh, because damn he is breaking my heart. “Even if that had happened, I’d never want that for you. I can come back from death. You can’t. It would devastate me if that happened to you because of me.”
“We don’t know if you can come back from death while you’re here. Everything is different. It’s not something any of us are willing to find out, so please. Just this once, let us take care of you, even if it’s just to make us, make me, feel better.”
He leans forward and kisses me softly, breaking my god damn heart, because wow, he has a way with words. I also hadn’t considered his last point, but as his kiss deepens, all thought but him slips from my mind.
“I'm sorry,” I whisper as his tongue glides along my bottom lip and his teeth nip the plump skin revealing a drop of blood that he quickly licks up.
“Delicious,” he purrs, bracing himself on either side of my head as he deepens the kiss, dominating me with his tongue.
Lost in his sweet assault, I hook an arm around his neck and lift my chest towards him silently begging for more.
“Ah, ah, Remy, you need to rest,” he admonishes but I don't care. Fisting my free hand on his shirt, I keep him close even as he tries to back away. My Kain is being noble, responsible. But I don't want that. I don't need a caretaker right now, I need my lover.
“I'll rest when I'm dead,” I tell him without thinking and the next thing I know, I've got both of my hands in one of his pinned above my head and a very angry Kain staring at me. I've never seen him like this, raw and almost out of control.
“Saying shit like that, Remy, is why we feel the need to protect you every fucking minute of the day. Death is not a joke, not for us. Definitely, not for me.” His words come through his clenched teeth as though it's taking everything within him not to snap at me like a petulant child. “Got it?”
I
