even truly believe it, it’s just what I knew.”
“It doesn’t matter, Colt.”
“It has to matter. Please, Fallon. Just hear me out. Talk to me,” he pleads and I huff.
“You’ve got fifteen minutes, after that, you’re gone, ya hear?” I tell him straight. I really do need to catch up on some sleep.
“I’ll take whatever I can get.” I step back and let him in. Closing the door behind him, I head to the sitting room, and sit in the love seat, my legs tucked underneath me.
“Talk,” I tell him curtly. I’m tired, and honestly at this point, I’ve given the boy more than enough of my time and energy. I had it thrown back in my face once already, I’m not going through that again.
“I was wrong, okay? I am so sorry for what I said, but all I could hear was my dad and Bauer in my head. Talking about factions, and duty. Then everything happened with Remy, and I realized two things. One, I wasn’t alone, and two, I had no reason to be ashamed of what I was feeling. I know that sounds like complete horseshit, but it is what it is. It took me a minute to wrap my head around everything.
I thought we were just having fun, ya know? And then, all of a sudden, it wasn’t just fun, and we were creeping towards a place we don’t come back from unchanged.” He rubs the back of his neck, I can tell how hard he’s trying to explain what he means, but man is he bad at it.
“Colt, you told me your kind and mine don’t mix. That you need to keep your lines pure. That’s a bit of a whopper to come back from with an I’m sorry,” I tell him, tilting my head, because I almost can’t believe he’d think that would be enough.
“You made it sound like Witches are beneath you. Nothing more than the rabble. Good enough to slum it with, but that’s all. I wasn’t good enough to be with you, not because of who I am, but because of what I am,” I seethe. I thought I’d moved past my anger on this, but apparently, I was wrong.
“Obviously, I’m a fucking idiot, Fallon. This isn’t something new. Lifetimes I’ve gone around with my head up my ass, buying into the bullshit the Elder council fed us, but you changed that. You made me doubt it. You made me want more. Feel more. Tell me how to make it up to you and I’ll do it,” he pleads and kneels down in front of me.
“This isn’t something I tell you how to fix Colt. This is something you need to figure out on your own,” I tell him, crossing my arms. Anything to put an extra barrier between us.
“Please Fallon.” He sighs. “Please.”
“Your time is up Colt. You need to go. I need to sleep before I head back to the store tonight.” He doesn’t need to know that I don’t have anywhere to go.
“Okay, I’ll go. But I’m not giving up Fallon. I’m in this, whether you are or not. And we both know I don’t back down easily,” he says as he stands. He waits for me to respond, but I have nothing else to say to him, so I sit and watch as he shakes his head before walking away from me and leaving. “It’s not over yet, Fallon. You’ll see.”
His words echo through the house before the door closes behind him and I let out a deep sigh.
What the hell am I meant to do with that?
I pick up my phone to double check that Misty is still covering for me at the store tonight, and I’ll cover for next week since we’re both in tomorrow. I’m going to need another drink to deal with everything Colt just dropped in my lap.
Men.
“Mama!” I walk through the house looking for her, I need to head back to the store, since Rebel’s dance recital is tonight, and there is no way she’ll miss it. I left Misty in charge while I popped home to get changed after an unfortunate accident with a potion and Misty’s clumsy little brother.
“Mama! Are you here?” I call out again, but I can’t see hide nor hair of her or Rebel, so I guess they’ve already left. I drop my keys on the counter in the kitchen and head to my room. It has its own entrance via the back of the house,
