the couch.
Then, Ira did the sweetest thing which surprised me but warmed my heart.
He moved closer to me, pushed his thumb into his mouth and rested his head on my lap before pushing his other hand into his hair to twirl his locks around his fingers.
I’ve seen him do this before, but he was looking for comfort while comforting himself, and I thought that was the most adorable thing ever.
I smiled and placed my hand on his side, letting him cuddle up to me without having to ask me for permission.
This little boy could do whatever he wanted and I would allow him into my personal space.
It was the best feeling knowing that he trusted me even without Wells around, and I knew Wells trusted me around Ira too.
So, without having to worry about anything, we watched cartoons, talking to each other occasionally.
Conversations with kids were never forced, and should never be, so it was okay for Ira to be silent more than not.
Wells
Seeing them cuddled up on the couch watching cartoons with each other was the most adorable sight I had seen in a long time.
It was always clear to me that Ira liked Rooney, but I would’ve never imagined them being this close this soon.
More because of Ira, but he didn’t seem to have a problem spending time alone with Rooney.
I smiled as I observed them from the kitchen, and when I walked up to them, Rooney turned her head to look up at me with a smile.
“Good morning,” she greeted me. “Sleep well?”
“Yeah, a little too well. You should’ve woken me,” I told her, leaning down to kiss her forehead.
Ira was still focusing on the TV, and I smiled knowing he was okay and enjoying this slow morning.
“Hey, buddy,” I said as I sat down next to Rooney, and when he finally tore his gaze off the screen, he pushed himself up and crawled over her lap to get to me.
“We’re watching Looney Tunes,” he told me, pointing at the screen and sitting on my lap facing the TV.
“I see that. Have you had a nice morning with Rooney?”
He nodded, and I kissed the back of his head before looking at her with a smile.
“Have you guys been up for long?”
“About an hour. I was up first, then he walked in and asked to watch something on TV. I hope that’s okay,” she said.
“Of course. I’m sorry about him sneaking into my bed. I’m still trying to find a way to get him to sleep in his own bed through the night.”
“Oh, no, don’t worry about that, Wells,” she said with a smile, lifting her arm and placing it behind me on the back of the couch, then she pushed her fingers into my hair gently.
Good.
Because I didn’t think I was ready to walk Ira back to his own bed after he crawls into mine.
“How are you feeling?” I asked, looking down at her thighs before meeting her eyes again.
She sucked in her cheeks, then smiled and shrugged. “A little sore. Last night was amazing.”
“No regrets?”
“Not a single one,” she replied, leaning in and kissing my lips quickly. “I made coffee. Would you like a cup?”
“Sounds good. I’ll make breakfast a little later. You’re not hungry yet, right, bud?”
Ira turned his head to look up at me and shake his head at my question. “But can I have my Hulk juice, please?” he requested in the most mannerly way possible.
“Of course you can.”
I picked him up and sat him down on the couch next to me so I could get up with Rooney, and when we both reached the kitchen, she filled two cups with coffee while I pulled out all the fruits and veggies I always used for the juice.
“Would you like some too? I think I’m gonna make some for me as well,” I told her.
“Thank you, but I’ll stick to the coffee for now. Did you plan anything for today?” she asked, leaning against the counter next to me and watching me slice the veggies small enough to fit in the blender.
“I was hoping to take Ira to the park, but it’s raining, and I thought we’d go to the indoor playground. Would you like to come?” I asked, hoping she would say yes.
“I told you I wanted to spend the weekend with you two. Of course I’m gonna come,” she replied with a smile.
“Perfect. I might ask Ira if he wants to invite his little friend. Probably more fun that way,” I said.
She
