me just how sweet and gentle he could be.
I couldn’t get enough of him, but I had to take a few steps back and head upstairs before I actually knocked on his door and woke him and Ira up.
I couldn’t be that selfish.
Not if I still had to get my emotions intact.
When I reached the top floor and the lights turned on automatically because of the sensors, I was surprised by the note on the floor in front of the door.
It had my name written on it, and my thoughts immediately went to Wells.
Apart from a handwritten note being incredibly romantic, I found it sweet that he let Ira scribble all over the white paper to make the note look more fun.
Smiling, I unfolded it and was taken aback by the simple words carefully written on it.
You looked beautiful in that dress. – Wells
My cheeks turned red, but how did he know what I had on?
The only possible way he could’ve seen me was out of the window as I got into my car, but however he got a look at me, this note was what made me smile the most.
He was thoughtful.
After staring at the note for a while, I unlocked the door and headed inside, then quickly headed to my bedroom to change out of my dress and into my pajamas.
I would keep that note close to my bed so I could look at it as often as possible, and once I was all settled and ready to sleep, I turned off all the lights and stared at the note for a little while before putting it onto my nightstand and closing my eyes.
I missed him, and no matter how many times I would repeat those three words, I couldn’t get my heart to open up the way I wanted it to.
Maybe time was what I needed, and for Wells and Ira, I would spend as many hours figuring out my feelings until I had a clear vision of what my heart wanted.
Chapter Thirteen
Wells
She was stuck on my mind and I couldn’t get her off of it.
I had to admit on doing some stupid things when I started to like someone in the past, and that didn’t change with Rooney.
Last night, after she left to get dressed for the dinner at the country club, I listened closely for her footsteps in the hallway, just to get a look at her through the fucking peephole.
When I saw her walk down the stairs, she looked incredible.
Like a princess.
But if she’d hear me say that she’d shake her head and tell me that she wasn’t a princess.
Well, to me she looked like one, but I could tell by the look in her eyes that she wasn’t too comfortable in those shoes.
Either way, I had to write her a note to let her know how beautiful she looked, so once Ira was in bed, and after I let him decorate the note with his colored pencils, I walked upstairs to put the note in front of her door.
It was the next day, and as much as I wanted to head up there again to see her, I had to walk the other way and take Ira to my mother’s.
She invited us for lunch, and I knew she’d keep us there for dinner as well.
Maybe a little distance between Rooney and me wasn’t such a bad thing after all.
I didn’t want to push her, and even if she enjoyed me kissing her neck yesterday, I had to stay back for her to know what she really wanted.
I put Ira’s seatbelt on and made sure he was secure, then gave him back his action figures.
“Ready to go to grandma’s?”
“Yes!” he replied happily.
I glanced up to Rooney’s bedroom window, knowing she was probably still asleep as she hadn’t been home before midnight.
Yes, that much I knew about last night.
“We’re gonna have lots of fun and eat a lot of yummy food,” I told him as I got into the car myself and put my seatbelt on to start driving.
“I like yummy food,” Ira said.
“I know you do. I do too.”
The drive to her house was a short one, but I knew once it was time to head back home, Ira would already be tired and not up for walking.
He’d do plenty of that at grandma’s, seeing as she had a nice garden and a swing set she bought just for Ira.
We arrived at the house and I got out of the car just as my
