How about a picnic tomorrow? I know a nice, quiet place,” he suggested.
“Sounds good to me.”
“Wanna come have dinner with us tonight?” he then asked, making the start of the weekend even better.
“I’d love to. I just need to take a shower, then I’ll be right down.”
“Perfect.” He leaned in again to kiss me, and after a quick dip of his tongue, he moved back again.
“I’ll see you later then,” he told me, taking a step back to let me walk to the door.
“See you soon,” I told them both, and after Ira waved at me, I grabbed the mail and headed back upstairs.

“Look, Rooney!”
I moved my gaze from the steak in the pan to Ira sitting at the kitchen table with the books Wells got for him all spread open.
“It’s a dragon!”
He pointed to a dark purple, pretty scary-looking dragon covering two pages, but he was rather fascinated by it than afraid.
It was a children’s book after all.
“That’s a big one, huh? Do you like dragons?”
Wells was taking a shower and I told him to take his time and not stress about dinner for once.
I had it all under control, and Ira seemed to be okay with me watching him while his dad was in the other room.
“Yes, but they are not real. I didn’t see one at the zoo,” he pointed out.
True.
“They would need a very tall and big enclosure,” I explained.
“Because they can fly,” he added, holding up his pointer finger like a little professor.
“That’s right,” I replied with a chuckle.
He was such a little charmer, just like his father.
Safe to say Wells wasn’t the only one stealing pieces of my heart, but this little guy knew exactly how to win someone over.
I was already in too deep, and I knew that if something were to happen between Wells and me, I’d have a hard time not being close to Ira.
“What are you two talking about?” Wells asked as he entered the kitchen, interrupting my deep thoughts and making me look back up from the meat.
“Dragons!” Ira announced.
“Dragons are great. You okay?” he asked me, stepping behind me and placing his hands on my waist while kissing the back of my head.
“Everything’s perfect. Dinner’s almost finished,” I told him, leaning back against him.
“I’ll set the table.”
When he stepped away from me, he told Ira to put away the books and help him set the table, which he did without making a big fuss about it.
Tonight was going to be perfect, and I couldn’t wait for the picnic Wells had planned.
“Do we need to cook something for the picnic tomorrow?” I asked, arranging the meat and veggies on each of our plates.
“There’s a new place right outside of town where they make healthy meals to take out and they also have many sugar free options. I’ve always wanted to try their things out, and it’s perfect for Ira.”
“Oh, you mean Divine?”
“Yeah, I think that’s what it’s called. Have you been before?” he asked.
We sat down at the table and Wells cut up the meat for Ira.
“Yes, actually. A few months ago. It was delicious,” I told him.
“Perfect. Then I guess our date is set for tomorrow. Did they have sweets too?”
I nodded, remembering all the amazing-smelling baked goods. “They have this insanely good cinnamon roll. It was low carb and sugar free, and I think I ate two of them. But there are so many more things to choose from. You’ll love it.”
“I can’t wait. I’m happy to have you here with us again,” Wells said, smiling and reaching for my hand to squeeze it before we both started to eat.
The warmth in my chest never left ever since I saw him earlier in the parking lot, and I knew that feeling wouldn’t leave until we’d be apart again.
Chapter Twenty-Two
Wells
“Wow!” Ira exclaimed as he ran toward the beautiful scenery ahead of us.
After last night, I couldn’t stop thinking about today, and to spend the day with Ira and Rooney was the right distraction I needed after a hard week at work and an even harder one ahead of me.
“It’s beautiful here,” Rooney said, her eyes wide with fascination.
“It is. Perfect for a picnic,” I replied, waving Ira back to us as he turned around.
“Come here, bud. Let’s eat first, then we can explore, okay?”
He ran back to us and immediately reached for the blanket I brought to sit on.
There was a flower field to our left and a big mountain with trees surrounding it, their leaves red, orange,
