my left as I turned the first page.
I started reading to him as he looked at the pictures and pointed to everything I was mentioning to show me that he knew exactly what I was talking about.
“He has a pump too!” Ira pointed out, showing off his own just like the little boy in the book did.
“That’s right! And you also know how it works, hm?”
“That’s a great book,” a deep voice said, and I turned my head to look at Dr. Cole.
“How are you doing, Ira?” he asked, and with a little bit of hesitation, Ira nodded at him and then waved.
“I’m ready, please follow me,” he told us.
As he turned his back, I pulled out my phone and took a picture of the book so I wouldn’t forget its title and author.
“We’ll go buy this book at the bookstore right after Dr. Cole is done with the checkup, okay, buddy?”
Ira nodded and hopped down off the chair while I put the book back, then I grabbed his hand and walked with him into Dr. Cole’s patient room.
“How are things going?” he asked as I sat down on the chair on the other side of his desk with Ira on my lap.
“Good. Nothing to complain about. Ira has adjusted well to the pump and we never had any trouble with the dosage. Ira’s feeling healthy and is very active.”
“That’s good to hear. I would like to do a blood test then talk about something new we’re working on. It’s another insulin pump, specialized for children under twelve. It’s not much different when it comes to the usage of it, but the technology has improved. We’re just gonna see if it could be a fit for Ira or not.”
“Okay, sounds good.”
Whatever Dr. Cole thought would help with my son’s health, I’d be okay with Ira having the newest and best devices needed for his diabetes.
Rooney
My week had been so busy that I didn’t even get a chance to get the mail from downstairs for three days.
Once again, I hadn’t left my apartment in days, and let Evie do all the grocery shopping to keep me alive.
I was busy with studying, classes, and painting Ira’s birthday present which was coming along nicely.
Only a few more details and it would be ready.
It was almost six p.m. when I finally decided to push everything aside and be done for the week.
I had earned my weekend, and I hoped to spend it with Wells and Ira.
I was walking down the stairs to get the mail Evie never brought upstairs for whatever reason, probably to avoid all the bills she had to pay with her parent’s money, and as I opened the entrance door, I saw Wells’s car park in front of the building.
I smiled, not able to keep my excitement to see him and Ira again inside of me, and the second his car door opened and he stepped out, he smiled brightly at me.
“Hey there, gorgeous,” he said, looking handsome as ever.
“Hi,” I greeted back, chewing on my bottom lip.
“Weird how we live this close but don’t see each other for days, huh?” he joked, and I laughed at his true words.
“Yeah, it’s weird.”
I walked down the steps to get to his car as he helped Ira out who came running toward me with a book in his hands.
“Look, Rooney! It’s me!”
I squatted down to get a better look at the book, and when I noticed what it was about, I smiled and nodded.
“That really is you! Where did you find this amazing book?” I asked.
“At the hospital,” he told me.
“He had a checkup and there was this book in the waiting room. I thought it was very informative and sweet, so we went to the bookstore and bought it, right buddy?”
“Yes! And more books!”
I smiled and got back up to wrap my arms around Wells’s neck, and since it’s been too long, I kissed him softly.
He placed his hand on my lower back while his other was holding the bag of books Ira was talking about.
“I missed you,” I whispered against his lips, and he smiled before breaking the kiss to look back into my eyes.
“I missed you too. How was your week?”
“Stressful, but I finished everything that needed to be done and now I’m free the whole weekend. I was hoping we could spend it together.”
His nod came quick, and I had a feeling that he had been hoping to spend it with me too.
“I have a little something planned, actually.
