able to see whoever this was as soon as he took one step inside the warehouse. Ulric understood why Win didn’t want to use the generators while they were all inside the house, but he wasn’t sure that was a good idea. Still, there was no changing the past. The only thing they could do was find this guy and find out why he was here.
Which meant Ulric and Sky needed to get dressed.
Ulric would rather stay naked with the heat, but that wasn’t possible. He didn’t care much about being naked, but he knew some of the other assassins and mates would be uncomfortable. He was a shifter, and he was entirely okay with being naked around other people, but not everyone was like him. Besides, if he tried to imagine Sky running around naked with everyone being able to see him, it made him jealous, and he suspected Sky would feel the same way if he did that.
So, dressed he got.
Sky stayed silent. He usually was a pretty quiet guy, but Ulric wished there was more he could do to reassure him. The only thing he could do was to find this guy, so he focused on that as soon as he and Sky left their bedroom. “Where should we start?” he asked Lawrence, who was waiting at the stairs.
Lawrence gestured at the garage. “You take this area.”
Ulric nodded. He and Sky still lived downstairs in the small fireproof rooms by the garage, so that was okay with him. He wanted to make sure no one had snuck into their rooms, and he couldn’t be sure he would have noticed since he’d been busy. “I’m going back upstairs,” Lawrence declared. “Win is coordinating everyone, so I’ll tell him you’re busy down here. He might send someone else, just in case, but the guy Griffith saw went upstairs, so I don’t think you’ll find him here.”
Ulric wanted to go with Lawrence. He wanted to throw himself into the search and find the guy who’d invaded his personal space and his home. But sticking with Sky was more important. It always would be, and Ulric didn’t regret it. His mate would always be the center of his universe.
To keep Sky safe, Ulric had to find the guy who was threatening his world and his family and make sure he paid for scaring everyone. As long as he hadn’t done anything but entering, though, there probably wasn’t much the assassins would do to him. Win would no doubt go to the council to let them know what had happened, but the council would be the one taking care of this guy.
Ulric was relieved. He never liked hurting people, but when he killed someone, he knew it was because they deserved it. If this guy had just been curious or if he had any reason other than hurting one of the people who lived here, then Ulric wouldn’t be comfortable with hurting him.
Since the man who’d entered might be a shifter, he and Sky checked under the stairs, but also under the cars and in any hole they could find. There was no way to know what kind of shifter had walked in. The guy might be a tiger, but he might also be a mouse. Ulric had never met mice shifters, but he’d seen weirder things, so he wouldn’t be surprised if that were the case.
“Lawrence sent me to hell,” Tony said as he came down the stairs.
Ulric loved Tony, but he couldn’t help but glare at him. Tony was the only one who didn’t seem to have a problem with the heatwave, probably because he could control ice and keep his body cool. That was why he was wearing a pair of jeans and a t-shirt instead of just shorts like most of them. He looked entirely at ease, and Ulric was so fucking jealous. “You can check the closets,” he told him.
Tony grinned. “You hate me right now, don’t you?”
Ulric rolled his eyes and stuck his tongue out. “Of course I do. You look like you’re taking a stroll in the garden.”
“We don’t have a garden.”
Ulric rolled his eyes again. “You know what I mean. It’s not fair.”
Tony shrugged and continued smiling. “Maybe not, but it’s not like I was the one who chose this gift. Now let’s get to work. Even though I’m not as hot as everyone else, it doesn’t mean I want to be stuck in here during the heatwave with no power. Lawrence and Griffith
