smiled to himself. He was a wolf who hadn’t met a challenge he couldn’t overcome.
His wolf was rising, ready.
“A run sounds great,” Trey rushed out, no doubt realizing that things had just gotten serious. “In fact, Kindling, let’s go on one right now.”
No way am I going anywhere. I am going to claim Haru. Mine. Mine. Mine. “No, I want to stay here.” He licked his bottom lip and caught Haru’s hungry stare in response.
Next thing he knew, Trey gripped his arm and dragged him away.
“That’s Haru Akiyama, High Lord of the Tengu Goblins,” Trey growled. “You can’t just fuck him in the middle of the sanctuary for the entire community to see.”
“I wasn’t going to hurt him,” Kindling protested.
“No? You looked like you wanted him to mount you for all in the sanctuary to see.”
“Yes, that would have been lovely. Your sanctuary into that type of thing? I wouldn’t have minded.”
“No, of course you wouldn’t.”
“Don’t be crass. And, even better? Me mounting him, my swollen cock between those tight cheeks of his. Did you see that ass? He could crack walnuts with that thing.”
It wasn’t long before Trey had Kindling settled in a place of his own. He suspected Trey’s wolf was too possessive to allow another wolf near its mate. That was all fine and well. Kindling had some plans.
He had a mate of his own to catch.
Chapter Three
Kindling’s temporary home included a fireplace with a large study, two floors, and three bedrooms. It was spacious for one person, but if he played his cards right, he wouldn’t be the only one in this humble abode. And it wouldn’t be temporary.
The house had several choice locations where Haru could fuck him. Perhaps the empty library on the second floor, the vast kitchen he wouldn’t be making much use of, or the spacious balcony with the ironwork and three comfortable chairs. Hell, the hardwood floors covered with thick rugs scattered about would even work. Again, Kindling wasn’t choosy. He just wanted Haru anyway and anywhere he could get him.
As he put his things away in a large oak armoire and set his camera on the matching desk, he sensed a foreboding presence near the dwelling. Negative energy. He was curious but not alarmed. It could be anything.
Kindling headed downstairs to find Trey checking the cabinets and the fridge. He shook his head. He hated to disappoint the guy, but cooking was not in his skill set. Ordering was.
“Is there a chance for delivery?” Kindling asked as Trey seemed to take notes on what he might need. Besides some drinks or snacks, maybe popcorn, that list wouldn’t be much.
Trey laughed. He shook his head and gave him the names of a few places that did take-out or delivery, and Kindling had what he needed so he wouldn’t starve. He supposed he could find Haru’s home and beg the man to feed him.
Kindling was more interested in finding Haru, but Trey wanted to show him the sanctuary and take him for a run. He would settle for that... for now. Eventually, he’d hunt down his giant. It couldn’t be too difficult to locate Haru. Taller than most, a sexy man with hair so blond it appeared white, and those brilliant green eyes? It had to be easy.
Kindling closed the door behind him and Trey. It was unusual not to have to lock up or worry about anyone breaking into his place. He felt safe here, like he could stay. Maybe it was his pull to Haru. Perhaps it was being beyond the veil. Whatever it was, Kindling felt he could take his first deep breath since he’d learned he was losing his job as a school guidance counselor. Instead of continuing to interview in a field overrun by people vying for the same positions, he was on his way to starting a new life in a new world. He could do this, it felt right. He’d swallow his tongue before he admitted it to his father, though.
Ready, Kindling turned around and nearly walked into a brick wall of a man, who apparently had a sizeable stick up his ass. This guy was the source of the negativity he had felt earlier. The man had obviously been eavesdropping at the door, too.
Trying to hear what, daunting stranger?
And are all the men here giants?
This one certainly was. The man stood tall and dark, with black hair falling down his back. And behind that wide back of his? Wings.
The man cast them both a
