now, the Mother Tree was a whole new conversation in itself. But, running along the same nut theme we're going with, then in that same nutshell is a lot of otherworldly creatures which would have been classed as mythology in the mortal world, that were born from that same Mother Tree. And once again, I know what you're thinking, is there like a tree for everything in this world? And yeah, you’re pretty much right with that. There was the Tree of Life, the Tree of Souls (which may or may not be connected to Lucius, depending on which side of mythology you believed in). There was the Tree of Death, the Tree of Darkness and Nightmares, along with many others I can’t be bothered to list. But basically, every bugger in a Realm had a Tree they called their own, and one every Tom, Dick and Van Dyke was connected to in some way. But for me, well, there was the Mother Tree.
Now this Mother Tree connected all of the Fae Realms, and depending on which side of the Tree you were born from, depended on what you would become. Imps, like myself, were actually more like chestnuts, making me, what I like to consider, one of the Conkers of the Supernatural world.
Cool, huh?
Now, like I said, dependant on which side of the Realm we were born on, we would fall to the Earth and then grow into what destiny or some other malarky, hocus pocus chose for us.
Which was why you had lots of different types of Imps; Shadow Imps like me, who like I said, were born on the Hellish side of the Tree closer to Hell. But you also have Forest Imps, Water Imps, Imps of the Lost, which were born naturally in the Lost Lands, just to name a few. But then, it wasn’t only Imps that were born from its branches.
It was said that the tree gained its powers from the Eternal Fountain which was rumoured to be protected deep underground in its own Temple… jeez, but where there was a special Tree, there was bound to be a Temple. But the Trees’ roots relied on this Fountain of the Gods that was said to grant life in the Elemental Realms.
Now, as for the creatures that dominated these lands, they were of course those pointy eared dickheads, the arrogant Fae. Or, if you want to use their fancy pants name, the Elves. Although, they didn't really like the term Elves much, hence why I enjoyed using it. This was because, to them, the Imps were classed as lower beings, which just poked at my goat… and well, let’s just say my goat liked to bite!
Okay, so I didn’t exactly have a goat… well, not anymore… poor Jeffery… but come on, lower class… ha, well considering I ended up being destined for one of the most powerful beings on Earth, take that Fakings! Naturally, I called them this because they were Fae Kings… get it, fakings… anyway, I didn't like the bastards, so that was that.
But getting back to me, well, I was a little different… and not just in the quirky sense. Because it was true, I was a nut that had been created on the shadow side, but after I had fallen to the Earth, that was when things had got tricky. You see, even before I took root underground, I was a mischievous little sort. I split from my shell and rolled away from where I should have landed. Because, in truth, Shadow Imps were usually a lot darker, a lot more with the sinister side should we say. Basically, they were bitches and bastards and every mean thing in between.
However, I hadn't been like that, which meant I had been an outcast the moment I had sprouted up from the Earth and tried to make my way back to where I knew I would find my dark home.
Needless to say, I wasn't exactly welcomed with open arms, so I left and after a cruel journey to Hell, I heard about the Mortal Realm and discovered that people were nice there. Oh, of course there could be cruelty in the Mortal Realm, what with human nature and what not, but it was the first time that I’d felt accepted, so this Conker stayed.
“That's all great, Pip, but I don't know how we got onto the topic of you being born,” Keira said, making me realise that I had been speaking out loud
