I had to say the sound pulled at my heart. In fact, so much so that I released a sigh and being so close to what might have been his ear, he heard it.
I started running down his back, but it was too late, as he was quick for a beast his size. I knew this when I was suddenly grabbed in the pinch of his claws from behind. A hold on me that tugged at my dress as he grasped the fabric. In fact, I had been amazed at how gentle he was, something that couldn't have been easy considering his colossal size. But other than tightening my dress at the front, he hadn't hurt me, and not once coming in contact with my skin. No, he just ended up using the dress as a way to take hold of me so that soon I was being dangled back in front of his face. Although, I would have been surprised to find the dress made it in one piece without a tear.
Then, as guilt started to get the better of me, I shouted at him,
“You scared me!” This was said in an accusing tone, making another rumble work its way up from his chest. Then he grunted before he opened his palm to his free hand and popped me down in it once more. Now feeling the need to defend myself, I told him,
“I only ran because I thought you were going to eat me!” I said, making him whine. But then he did something curious as he looked down at the creature that he had killed, and then shook his head as if he was trying to tell me the reason he got angry. That was when I realised that perhaps he could understand me, but just didn't know how to communicate back other than with slight gestures.
“Do you know what I'm saying… do you understand me?” I asked, making him whine again in a higher pitch this time.
“Okay, so how about this… if you understand me, jerk your thumb.” I then looked to his thumb and was amazed to see when he jerked it forward and then back. In fact, I was so happy that I jumped up and down and started clapping.
“Brilliant!” I shouted, making him look at me curiously again.
“You did good!” I praised, and this time when he whined a kind of clicking sound came after it.
“Did you like it when I danced for you, jerk your thumb again if yes.” Again, he jerked his thumb, and I became ridiculously happy at the sight.
“Okay, okay now this is great! But before I get too carried away, let's try another question,” I said, tapping my lips as I thought what it should be. Then I clicked my fingers as it came to me and said,
“Alright, I have it… okay, so let's make a jerk of your thumb a yes and we will make a jerk of your little finger a no… got it?” Again, he jerked his thumb making me grin.
“Good boy,” I praised, as if he was some gigantic mutant pet of mine.
“Were you angry because of the creature and worried it could hurt me?” I asked, making him jerk his thumb but just so I knew he wasn't doing this out of habit, I asked a question that I thought he would most likely say no to.
“And how about when I ran from you, did you like that?” His answer was as suspected, as he jerked his little finger.
“Aww… okay… well, I'm sorry for running. I just want you to promise me something, and if you do then I won't run anymore… can you do that?” Another thumb jerk told me that he could.
“No more scaring me, okay, and definitely no eating me… do you understand?” I stood back, giving his thumb more room to jerk up and down being thankful when it did.
“Good, then I think we have an understanding you and I. And I will be your friend and stay with you, and in return the rules are simple… you still understanding me so far?” A thumb jerk confirmed that he did.
“Okay, so no eating me, no squashing me, no scaring me, which includes no roaring at me, and no pushing me over… gentle, yes?” It was at this point that he jerked his thumb doing so a few times so that I would understand he was answering yes to every one of my terms.
“Good, that's good then… actually it's great!”
