our pixie daughter, and I have got their sister fox in my arms.”
Dian’s mouth fell open. “We have three children? That… that’s… that’s unheard of. Three. We had three? You were carrying three of them?” He was already in his gargoyle form, and the sheer weight of the moment demanded that he shift again. Human’s good. I can do human, he thought woozily as he initiated the change. And then he felt the cold hard stone of his third form take him over. He could hear, he could see, but he couldn’t move. Fuck my life.
“Okay, I don’t think Dian intended to do that,” Joe said with a grin. “How long will it take him to shift back into something that can hold one of these babies?”
“I don’t know.” Kee shook his head, but he was still smiling too. “My poor mate hasn’t had a chance to turn to stone for…” he huffed as he thought, “probably a month at least. I guess his third form wanted to be part of the action too.”
“Well, he’s too damn heavy to move in that form,” Cam said passing the baby boy over to Doc. “I’ll text Fergus, see if he can bring us a midnight snack. Ivan is bound to be awake for his middle of the night feed by now. We’ll have a picnic, if you’ve got no objections, Doc.”
“I could handle something to eat, especially if Fergus is doing something.” Doc was checking out the miniature gargoyle. “You know, I’ve never seen a baby gargoyle before. Gargoyles are so protective of their young because they’re so rare. But this little one is kinda cute.”
I can’t see him.
“It’s that little mop of black hair, isn’t it?” Kee beamed. “His tiny mop of hair, and his cute little horns.”
My son has horns?
“He’s good with that tail already.” Cam nodded. “He had that wrapped around my wrist like he was afraid I’d drop him.”
That’s instinct. Babies do that. Dian could scream. He had three gorgeous newborns, and he couldn’t move. He couldn’t understand why his third form thought it was necessary to come out now.
“We haven’t even discussed names.” Dian could feel Kee’s eyes on him, watching as the smile fell off his face. “Hey, guys, did any of you notice Dian was injured when he came in with me before?”
“We were focused on you.” Doc frowned as well, handing the baby back to Cam. “Did you say he was fighting a vampire before he came here?” He came closer, leaning down to inspect Dian’s legs and arms. “Damn, I wish you could blink like this,” he said gruffly.
“What’s wrong with him?” Kee sounded as if he was getting closer.
You should still be in bed.
“Vampires have poison on their claws. Look here.” Doc stepped back and Dian could see his mate still holding their shifter daughter.
“Oh, babe.” Kee brushed over his solid head. Dian wished he could feel it – he just got the impression of it, but his solid form didn’t register physical touch. “You’ve got nasty scratches down your legs, one over your arm. And then Doc made you run back home again so you wouldn’t get upset when I was bleeding… and you were poisoned by that stalker. Damn, you could’ve been killed if you hadn’t shifted into your third form.”
Doc did that? Now Dian didn’t know what to think. Admittedly, the story of Cam being carried out of the doctor’s office when Fergus was having Ivan was a tale often repeated at the bar. Dian would’ve found that hellishly embarrassing if it happened to him. Running a useless errand… plausible and not embarrassing. And besides, that dust might have been useful.
Dian was stretching – he knew that. Kee had his own magic which probably explained why he was out of bed after having gone through a major operation. Kee was smiling at him now, his eyes red rimmed but still beautiful – he was crying over me.
“Did you want to see one of your daughters?” Kee tilted his bundle around and Dian could feel his insides melting. The sweet little girl was tiny – tiny but perfectly formed. She had a tiny button nose, and dark eyebrows. Her rosebud mouth was pouting as she slept, and she had the cutest little peach fuzz hair peeking out from under the blanket.
“I haven’t got a clue what we can call her, or her siblings.” Kee hugged their daughter close again. “Rocky was here before. He suggested Pixie, Foxy and Rocky but
