can help with.”
“You can take out the damn trash for me.” Grabbing a scarf from the hanger by the door, Dian went over to where the vampire was still trying to get out of the wall. “Stay still,” he barked, looping the vampire’s hands and legs together so the vampire looked like a pretzel, and then tying the ends around the vampire’s neck for added pull. “Fucking bastard interfering with our sleep.” Dragging the vamp out of the wall, he tossed the mess at Rocky’s feet.
“That is the damn vampire who terrorized Kee before he came to town. I don’t know how he got into town, I don’t know why no one noticed the asshole hanging around, I don’t give a shit; I just want him gone. I have a baby due in less than two days and my mate needs some damn sleep!”
“Er… babe?” Dian’s head whipped around as he heard Kee at the top of the stairs. “Love the redecorating job, babe, but about that giving birth on Monday thing? I think your little one wanted to help you. He wants out now.” Kee doubled over, falling to his knees at the top of the stairs.
Mal took charge. “Rocky, call Liam and get his ass out of bed, he can take care of the vampire. Cam, call Eagle, he’s in the bar, he’s going to be needed to help hold Dian. Actually, Rocky, call in Beau too – he’s a phoenix. Joe will be at Doc’s already. Come on Dian, what are you waiting for? Get your mate and get down to the Doctor’s office. Move!” he added as Dian just stood there stunned.
Kee. Oh, my gods. Thumping up the stairs, Dian gently picked his mate from the floor, sweeping him into his arms and closing his wings around them. Kee’s face was gray, his mouth a red slash of pain and he was cradling his stomach, panting hard. It was too cold to fly, and Dian couldn’t waste any time getting Kee into clothes he was just going to have to get out of again. But after he’d brushed past the men on the porch, he ran… he ran faster than any gargoyle had done before.
“The little one’s impatient.” Kee’s teeth chattered as he reached up, brushing Dian’s chin. “He heard his daddy fighting and wanted to dash right in.” Kee sobbed and bit his lip. “His claws. Tell the Doc I think our son’s claws have hit something. And hurry. Please hurry.”
The door was open when Dian arrived, Doc dressed in a robe, his hair all around his face. “Straight in and on the table.”
“Kee said the claws have hit something inside of him.” Dian put Kee on the table, but he didn’t want to let go. “There was a fight. A vamp in the house. I didn’t realize…”
“Get out of the damn way, then,” Doc snarled. “I can’t save your mate if I can’t get to him. Go and get some of that damn dust of his and hurry.”
Pixie dust! The pixie dust will save him. Barreling past Cam, Eagle, and another man he had seen around town but hadn’t met yet, Dian hurried back the way he came. The council had already had their first installment of dust, and the contract was on hold until after Kee had given birth. But they still had four jars Kee wanted to keep on standby in case anyone in town needed help. And Kee’s the one who needs it now. Fates, please, I’m begging you, keep him safe.
Chapter Thirty-Two
Ten minutes. It had only taken ten minutes for Dian to run to the house, find the jars of dust, and run back to the doctor’s office, remembering just in time to pick up a heavy coat for Kee. It was his coat, but Dian knew Kee would appreciate his scent around him.
Ten minutes. Dian hurried into the doctor’s waiting room to see Kee sitting up on the bed, color back in his cheeks, and holding a bundle in his arms. Cam had another one and… Deputy Joe was holding one too? There were smiles. Everyone was smiling. Dian stood there, the jar of dust in his hand… “What the hell just happened?”
“I gave birth, babe, or rather the Doc here pulled the impatient babies out of their warm snug womb and fixed up my insides with a spot of magical help from me.” The brightness had returned to Kee’s eyes. “Cam has our sweet gargoyle son, Joe has
