and locked the bathroom door on him. Apparently, that was a step too far between mates, but Kee took all six tests with him and Dian took that as a win. He listened at the door instead – his ear pressed up against the wood. Kee was still muttering, probably thinking he was being as ridiculous as Doc thought he was. But there it is. Dian grinned as he heard the rustle of packages being opened, the flip up of the toilet lid as it hit the plastic of the cistern, and… And no, Dian didn’t think it was weird listening to his mate pee.
The tap in the bathroom came on, and Dian moved away from the door, checking his phone for the time. The package instructions – Dian had memorized them on the walk from the clinic to home – said that the person using the test had to wait five minutes to see if a positive result would show up.
It was a long five minutes. Dian could vaguely hear Kee moving about, and he wished his mate had unlocked the door so he could watch the tests processing. He heard the tap turn on again, the swoosh of water hitting the ceramic sink, Kee was humming… Is that good news or not? More moving around. Dian checked his phone again. It was now seven minutes since he’d heard the first tap in the bathroom come on.
Maybe they are all negative and poor Kee doesn’t want to come and tell me he was wrong. Dian quickly googled “pregnancy test kit issues.” He was busy reading an article from the Mayo Clinic Shifter division about how positive false results can’t happen with shifters, when he heard the turn of the lock on the bathroom door. Sliding his phone into his pocket, Dian waited. Show no expression. Take my lead from Kee.
Kee bounced out of the bathroom – the six sticks held in his hand like a bouquet. “Ta-da! For you. Six results. Six positives, and it’s the middle of the afternoon so what does that tell you? Most sensible people wait until the first pee in the morning to take a pregnancy test.” He handed the bouquet to Dian.
“It’s a really strong positive?” His hand shaking, Dian took the sticks, checking each one was the same. Just as Kee said – six positives. “It’s true? You’re really pregnant?”
“You’d better not faint on the hallway floor, mate, because there’s no way I’d be able to move you if you did. And should I take offence because you didn’t believe me when I told you the news came from my own animal half?”
“No… yes… no…” Dian took a moment to collect himself as Kee sauntered past. He’d done his hair – it was all swept back off his face just the way Dian liked it, and he’d added a touch of color around his eyes that made the blues pop. And Kee was still wearing nothing but those beautiful boy shorts that showed off the flex of his ass as he went past. “No, I won’t faint. Yes, I did wrong in not trusting your animal half. No, please don’t take offense. You mean it? We’re pregnant?”
“I don’t know how much of this is ‘we’, my stony mate.” Kee turned and looked back over his shoulder. “You’ve barely said anything since I shared the news and I’m the one who’ll be carrying our new life, seeing as you won’t let me near your solid ass.”
“You can have it.” Dropping the sticks on the floor, Dian hurried after his mate, sweeping his feet off the floor before Kee got to the stairs and twirling him around and around and around. “Any thing you want. Anything you need. You want a pickle ice-cream at two in the morning – I’ll brave Mrs. Hooper’s for you. If you want to spend the whole pregnancy eating Brutus’s bear claws, I’ll set up a chair for you outside Fergus’s bakery. I’ll prep my ass for you – you won’t need to do a thing except lay back holding up your pretty cock. Anything you want. Anything at all…”
“So, the pregnancy is good news then?” Kee rested his arms on Dian’s shoulders, and Dian realized he should probably stop twirling in case they fell down the stairs.
“It’s the best bloody news I’ve ever had, second only to the day you agreed to be mine.” Dian slowed his feet. He thought his heart was going to burst with rainbow
