everything holy, he wanted that too.
“Don’t you want to see me? Be with me? Claim me?”
“No. Gods.” He groaned again. “Don’t you see, until you’ve…” He trailed off, realizing he was listening to the dial tone. And then another realization hit him in the face. Kee had asked him if he wanted to see, be with and claim him, and the first word Dian had said was “no.” “Oh, my gods, I’ve really fucked this up.” Dian’s phone split into a hundred pieces as his fist hit the closest thing to him.

Kee didn’t think he’d ever been so angry, but he wasn’t the type to run off half-cocked either – most of the time. He knew Dian didn’t mean it when he said no. He was probably launching into a long-winded explanation about how scary he was to look at, and how he didn’t want to risk Kee rejecting him or some such shit like that.
“Honestly, this guy must think we live in the dark ages,” he muttered as he started taking off his clothes. “I mean, what could he possibly be?” He pulled his shirt over his head. “Is he a troll? That would be kinda cool. They’re not pretty to look at, but he could scare the crap out of a few people on my shit list. What else? A giant, maybe? He can’t be that big if he’s in Cam’s house. Ooh, maybe he’s an ogre – he’s got the muscles for it.”
The pants were gone next. “Well, we’ll just have to see, won’t we.” Naked, Kee went through to his bedroom and put his bathrobe into his specially made backpack. Giving someone a stern talking to wasn’t as effective if the person was naked, especially with how horny Kee had gotten simply listening to Dian’s voice.
Going through to the utility room, Kee checked to make sure the latch was off the doggy door, arranged the backpack on the floor, and then shifted. He wasn’t overly big in his furry form, only marginally bigger than a natural alpha fox might be. But he was fast and given how sore his feet had been from working in the bar, Kee was happy to give his fox’s four paws a run instead of his own sore toes. Shoving his head through the backpack, he stepped into it, using his teeth to tug the strap tighter so it didn’t drag. As soon as he was sure it wouldn’t come off accidentally, or impede his legs in any way, Kee shot off through the door.
It was after nine at night. Kee could hear the fun going on at Cam’s bar as he ran past the library, but apart from that, no one else was around. Cutting across the road, he headed up the other side of the bar, his tongue hanging out as he ran down the pavement. Cam lived with his mate now, in their house that was two blocks further away from town than where Cam’s house was, and it was only minutes later that Kee padded softly up the path to Cam’s house where Dian was staying.
The lights were on in the living room. Good sign. Checking to make sure Cam’s house didn’t have nosy neighbors, Kee pulled on the release cord he had on his backpack and stepped out of it before shifting into his human form. Taking the robe out of the pack, he slipped it on, crossing it over his front and making sure the belt tie was secure. I’m glad he doesn’t have gravel pathways, Kee thought as he walked silently up to the porch. It would’ve been hell on his bare feet. Placing his empty backpack to the side of the front door, Kee peered in the window by the door.
He couldn’t see much. Cam had a bit of a hallway, and while Kee could see some sort of large shadow spilling into the entrance space, he couldn’t make out what was causing it. He raised his hand to the front door, and let it hover there. Knock or just walk in? If he knocked and Dian refused to answer, which he might if he was in his shifted form, then Kee would have to resort to breaking in. But to just walk in wasn’t polite and Dian did work for the government.
Kee knocked.
“Go away!”
If Kee had been in any doubts it was his mate responsible for the rumbled yell, he’d have turned tail and fled as fast as his furry white legs
