he said, pointing at the base of the wall where the ground seemed a little uneven.
I moved forward, trying to get a look as I squinted against the darkness and he told us he was going to get a light.
“Does he mean this?” Blake asked, pointing out an area of the old brickwork that seemed to be crumbling around the mortar and Kyan shoved me aside as he tried to get a look.
I shoved him back, cursing the darkness as I failed to see anything serious enough to have made Saint think the stalker had been trying to break in here and turning to look for him with that damn light.
The moment I turned my head, a spray of ice cold water hit me square in the face and I yelled out as Saint turned the hose on the others too.
He quickly swung the hose back and forth drenching all of us with the freezing water before we had a chance to dive away from it and Kyan bellowed as he launched himself at him.
His shoulder caught Saint in the gut and the hose went flying as the two of them crashed into the mud in a heap of fists and curses.
Blake yelled out a battle cry as he launched himself into the fight too and I only hesitated a moment as they yelled for me to help them pin Saint down before I leapt into the fray as well.
He fought like a demon, kicking and punching as the four of us rolled through the mud until we were utterly covered and Kyan was the first to crack and start laughing.
He fell onto his back as Saint punched him once more before bursting into laughter too and the corners of my lips pulled up until I was gasping with laughter, laying amongst the three of them in the dirt.
“Fuck you guys,” Saint cursed, swiping mud from his face as he tried to pull himself together.
“No thanks, brother,” Kyan teased. “Tate already did a good job of that before you got here.”
We started laughing again while Saint sporadically continued to curse us and I couldn’t help but think as I lay there covered in mud, soaking wet with my body freshly bruised and my dick utterly satisfied that I might have actually found somewhere I belonged. The Night Keepers may have been a bunch of assholes with a severely dysfunctional moral compass, but somehow being among them felt right, like I’d found something I’d been searching for without ever even realising I was looking for it.
So maybe it was time I stopped trying to bullshit myself about the way I felt and just accept it. Tatum had called us her tribe before, and I was starting to realise that she was right. Down here in the dirt was where I belonged, and I was ready to accept that with all of my heart.
W e had a plan. The only plan that made any sense, but one that the Night Keepers weren't entirely happy about. I was going to be bait for the Justice Ninja and we'd lead them to a snare I'd set up in the woods. An honest to god snare that was good enough to catch a mountain lion thank you very much and I hadn’t minded one bit when Saint’s eyes had bugged out of his head while he’d watched me set it up. Or the way Kyan had suggested we go camping in the woods one time so that I could show him my wild side in action.
I just hoped that asshole was spying on me with his listening device tonight because I was hungry as hell for vengeance.
I sat in the library for a while, pretending to do work when really all I was doing was shooting messages to the guys and chewing my pen so hard that I cracked the plastic.
Saint seemed to be putting my punishment on ice until this was dealt with, but I couldn’t help but expect him to spring an attack on me at any moment for defiling his bed with the other Night Keepers. I should have known better than that though. Saint didn’t launch attacks with a battle cry, he snuck up behind you and slit your throat so you couldn’t scream while he cleaved you apart piece by piece. So whatever his punishment was going to be, I knew I would never predict it. I just wished he’d get it over with so I could stop living in
