burn them out.
I didn't say any of that. How could I? Instead, I captured his mouth, keeping both of us too busy to talk. By the time I sat up again and began moving against him, the moment had passed. My muscles relaxed when his palms skimmed my sides, and I closed my eyes. I just wanted to experience something simple.
When we reached our peaks, the combination of both of our emotions rolling through me was anything but simple.
Chapter Twelve
After a brief nap, I woke up with Kian wrapped around me. My monster remained dormant, and my body felt better than it had in a set. Tempering my urge to stretch, I shifted with careful movements, wanting to take a minute to just watch Kian as he slept.
That sounded pretty creepy, but at that moment, gratitude swept through me. His lush lips were slightly parted, and I wanted to capture them between mine. Forcing my gaze away, it traveled up past his nose with its cute little tipped end until I reached his eyes. Only half awake, they weren't the bright blue that usually sparkled behind those white-tipped lashes.
One corner of his mouth quirked up before he whispered in a broken voice. “Hey.”
“Hi.”
He dropped a kiss on my forehead and wiggled around until he'd somehow shrouded me even more—his heavy limbs draped over me, weighing me down.
“Let's hide for a while,” he suggested, letting his eyes close once again.
As preferable as that would be to what we had to do, I'd already wasted too much time. The King wouldn't care what happened in my life. The Office would be expected to open the following binal, and I still had a pitiful understanding of the rules. My plan consisted of even less. Besides, the longer I lingered with him, the more dreams would pop up, dreams that could never be.
“If we hide, who will ruin Axton's binal? And I'm sure Trace is itching for a fight. I'm surprised they haven't already burst into the room yelling,” I said as I poked his side.
His feeble attempts to elude my finger loosened his hold, allowing me plenty of space to get up. But I found myself still lying there.
“Fine, fine. You can quit with the torturous finger now.” Kian threw his arms open, making it evident that it was time for me to go.
And I did push myself up, but I took a moment or two to let myself drink in the view. With his arms out to his side, he'd left me too much opportunity. I darted down, clamped my teeth around his nipple, and bit down gently before releasing it. He slapped a hand over it as I jumped up and rolled off the bed. His complaints covered my laugh, but by the curve of his lips, he didn't mind that much.
It didn't take long to grab another uniform and get ready for the binal. Covering myself proved to be the simple part. When I stepped out of the bathroom, Axton and Trace stood there with their arms folded across their chests and decidedly unhappy expressions. Gritted teeth, clenched jaws, and rigid postures formed an unmistakable picture of their opinion of me.
I froze as the stinging, caustic emotions rolled off them and shot towards me. The assault woke the monster, and its swift rise pinched my gut. Then, when it tired of my staring contest with the two assholes, it started its shit in a bid for attention. Perhaps it assumed we were in danger because it reached up, signaling for me to join with it again.
I debated the proposal, weighing whether that would allow us to safely deal with what I knew was coming. The trio didn't realize that their absence of control hurt me, and though their ignorance lay on my shoulders, I had no intentions to educate them. If they discovered I had an inside means to track their sincerity, I would lose the advantage.
“Hungry?” Kian stepped between us, disturbing our silent battle to kiss my cheek. He waited until I looked up at him and nodded before drifting away and calling out, “Anyone else want anything? Grace?”
Grace? Of course, she's here. All we require is Master Akai, and this strange new version of torture would be complete. Fuck.
Throwing back my shoulders, I scanned the gathering room and found the Angel in question trying to blend in as much as possible. The poor thing shrank into the couch, her trembling hands clutching her knees. Since she had her
