taking the true death, but that is a story for another time. They don’t get to know everything about me, regardless of the fact that we’re all in this, seemingly because of me.
Once Marie draws the meeting to an end, the witches start to portal out, back to their own corners of the Earth, and they take some of the elders with them, to start with the hunt for Lizzie. Once we’re alone again, Marie pulls me to one side. I look at the others, Colt trying to talk to Fallon, my guys barely taking their eyes from me, as they continue talking, I assume about the parts they need to play in the coming weeks. I turn from them and give Marie my full attention.
“Remy, I won’t keep you long,” she says in hushed tones, which makes the butterflies in my stomach kick up.
“What’s wrong?” I ask, trying not to worry.
“My vision, it’s changed,” she says, her eyes dart to the group behind me. “I haven’t told anyone else, because I don’t fully understand it, but it’s changed. The war… the path has changed. There is no longer utter death and destruction on a battle field, but someone who can get close to you is not what they seem. Their face is hidden from my vision, which makes me think they’re working with a witch, to try and hide their intentions. It must be a very powerful witch to block them from me. Be careful, Remy.”
She squeezes my hand before walking back to Fallon. She told me alone for a reason. But it couldn’t be one of them. It just couldn’t.
Right?
Chapter Twelve
“We haven’t done this in forever.” Fallon laughs as we drop into the chairs at the coffeeshop we used to spend more time at than at home.
“It’s fun. Even if my poor plastic is feeling some pain.” I drop the multiple bags from the morning of shopping we’ve done so far.
“This was way better than staying in with all those surly guys of yours. What was wrong with them? You not putting out enough?” I laugh at her words, if only she knew the pelvic sorcery I’ve been experiencing since I got back from Avalon.
“Hardly, I’d just already said something about going out with you, without a chaperone, and they all went into overprotective alpha mode,” I say, rolling my eyes and picking up the menu.
“Girl, why are you picking up the menu, you and I both know you’re going to order the same as always.” She laughs at me and I join her. I feel like some semblance of myself for the first time since I got back home. She’s not wrong, I’ve ordered the same thing from here for about four years. I drop the menu just as the server approaches with a smile.
“What can I get for you ladies?”
“I’ll have a pumpkin spice latte, extra whip, extra shot, with a cheese and ham croissant.” Fallon grins at me as she orders the same thing she orders every time at this time of year.
“I’ll have a peppermint mocha with extra cream, with a chicken and bacon toastie.” I smile at the girl who nods and turns on her heel back towards the counter.
“I can’t believe it’s almost Christmas,” Fallon sighs. “I feel like it’s come out of nowhere this year.”
“Tell me about it. It’s going to be weird as fuck this year. I don’t know what we’re even doing.” I sigh, and put my head in my hands. “Do you think it would be weird if we just ordered Italian, and spent the day watching movies?”
“Girl, after the year you’ve had, you can do whatever the fuck you like, and no one can say shit. Though I’m pretty sure there’s going to be more than a few people that want to be with you guys that day. Including Maddie and Nate, though Nirvana will be home, so that could be interesting, and Colt will want to be there too… We could just do a big movie day? Goddess knows you guys have enough space to have everyone. Everyone could bring their own dish, and we can just do presents, food, and movies?”
“That sounds like a perfect day. A day with nothing to worry about except how stretchy my pants need to be so I can eat all of the things.” I sigh wistfully. Even just the idea of it makes me feel lighter.
“Then let’s do it!” Fallon pulls her excitement in a bit as our coffee
