my old trusty hooded cape from my wardrobe, and change into the buckled leather pants, corseted waistcoat combo that I wore on my very first hunting trip in this life. This outfit is just stunning, and why not look good while capturing the person who’s been trying to ruin my life for well, centuries it would seem.
Once I’ve changed, I braid my hair before strapping my swords to my back, loading my guns into my thigh holsters, and tucking my throwing knives into spare spaces that are easy to reach. Lastly, I open the box and pull out my karambit knives. They’re still as beautiful as they were when Levi gifted them to me so very, very long ago. I strap one to my hip and the other to my bicep before heading back out to the library.
Creek whistles as I leave my room and close the door. “Well damn. I fully understand why Levi wanted you plastered to his side today, but looking at you, I think you made the right call. Any of us would be far too distracted by you and probably get ourselves killed.”
His gaze rakes over me hungrily and I smirk at him. “Well, if everyone gets themselves back here in one piece, maybe we can have one big play time as a reward.”
“Yes, ma’am. That definitely sounds like the right sort of incentive.” He grins as he takes my hand and walks me back to the library. Everyone else is already here, but I know the thirty minutes isn’t up yet, I set a timer on my phone because there was no way I was going to be the reason the plan got off track. Not after the amount they’ve tried to keep me out of this as it was. I wouldn’t put it past them to try to leave me behind.
“Remy,” Levi says as we cross into the library. His hand clutches my hip as Creek leaves me with him. “Are you sure you’re okay going with them? You’re a conduit for my power, we’d be much better paired.”
“You mean, you’d get to kick ass and I’d get to watch because you’d want me protected?”
“Maybe,” he sighs. “I’d just feel better if I could see you.”
“I will be fine. Amelia is the target, we have eyes on her, magical ones anyway. Marie will let us all know if anything changes, and I’ve got Fallon and Nevin with me. Nevin’s saved my life more than a few times, and Fallon can heal me up if anything does happen.”
He lets out a deep sigh before bruising my lips with his kiss. “You stick to them like fucking glue. If anything happens…”
“I will protect myself. I know the drill,” I tell him as I rest my hands on his chest. “You look after yourself too. If anything happens to you, to any of you, I won’t survive it.”
We took off into the air not long ago, Nevin is carrying Fallon, since she has the map on her phone. Marie and Caleb are helping some of the others get there, but we needed air visuals, so anyone that could fly, ended up in the air.
Levi and Serafina are so competitive, that they disappeared into the horizon a little while ago, but then, they’re covering the far side of the cabin, so they have a bigger distance to travel. Levi looked back at me once, silently telling me everything he didn’t get chance to before we left.
The others barely even said goodbye, and I get it. This is not goodbye. I don’t accept that. None of us do. And so, there was no need. I’ll see them all again soon.
I lose track of time as I follow Nevin. We rise above the clouds to avoid anyone spotting us since it’s still early in the day.
“We’ll need to land soon and move in on foot,” Fallon calls out. Thank god for her magical map, because I have no fucking clue where we are at this point.
I follow Nevin as he starts to descend. The large green forest in the distance must be the forest Levi told us about. It doesn’t take long until we land, and Fallon wobbles a little as she finds her feet. Nevin shakes out his arms from carrying her for so long while I stretch out my wings before putting them away. We might be pretty far from anyone and anything here, but there’s no point in risking anyone seeing me. Plus, walking through this
