wish I could tell you, Morgan. All I know is that I really enjoy being with you. And... you make my heart flutter.”
Her cheeks turned pink. “I do?”
“Yes. It’s a feeling I don’t usually get, and well, I rather like it.”
Slowly, she shook her head. “Thomas Powers, you are full of surprises tonight. I never figured you to be the kind of guy who admits his feelings.”
He chuckled. “And I’m usually not, either.”
“You don’t have any other surprises for me, do you? I don’t know if I can handle that many in a week’s time.”
He waggled his eyebrows. “I suppose you’ll just have to wait and see.” He returned to his meal, taking a bite of the chicken. Inwardly, he sighed. Just like Mom’s.
After the meal, Morgan helped him clean up the dishes, putting them all in the kitchen sink. The moment they had the last dirty dish in the sink, he tugged on her arm, pulling her against him as he gazed longingly into her eyes. The sides of her mouth turned up into a grin.
“So, now what do you have in mind?” She moved her hands up his chest and then to his neck.
“I have a hot tub,” he suggested.
“I have no bathing suit.”
“I’ll give you some of my shorts and a t-shirt.”
She chuckled. “I think I’ll pass, thank you.”
He leaned closer and kissed her on the cheek before trailing his kisses down to her neck. She tilted her head as he nibbled on her throat.
“We could sit and snuggle,” he said pulling away from her. “I didn’t get enough of that the other night.”
“We can sit for a bit.” She smiled and backed away from him as she began walking toward the living room.
“Let me refresh our drinks.” Thomas grabbed the bottle of wine and began pouring. He watched as she wandered to the other room, and his heart beat with anticipation. He didn’t know what it was about her that made him feel giddy as a boy experiencing his first date, but he didn’t care, either. He enjoyed the youthfulness of his heart.
Out of the corner of his eyes, a shadowy figure appeared. Percy!
Thankfully, the so-called angel had changed his clothes from earlier in the office. He now sported beach shorts and a Hawaiian shirt with galoshes on his feet. Inwardly, Thomas groaned. This man needed someone to dress him every day.
“Mr. Powers,” Percy began, “I think you need to take your lady friend home.”
“No,” Thomas growled, hating that Percy was interfering again. “This is my night, not yours.” Thomas picked up the glasses and quickly marched past Percy and into the living room.
Morgan had turned the lights down low and was making herself comfortable on the couch. She looked so good and relaxed. If Percy would just stay away, maybe Thomas and Morgan could enjoy themselves the rest of the evening.
“Do you want some music?” Thomas handed her a glass of wine.
“What do you have?” She took a sip of her wine.
“I do not think you should play any music,” Percy said, following Thomas to the surround sound speaker and Bluetooth hookup. He took out his phone and found the playlist before setting the phone down on the table. Percy hovered closely, trying to see what Thomas was doing. Irritation grew quickly, and he was ready to physically throw out the little man. Percy needed to leave before something terrible happened.
As Thomas joined Morgan on the couch, he slid is arm around her shoulders, pulling her close. She cuddled against him, resting her hand on his chest.
“If I recall,” he said softly, “before the night ended, we were in this position.” Thomas leaned in and put his lips on hers. She responded very quickly to his kiss.
“Umm... Mr. Powers?” Percy whined. “I do not think you heard me earlier, but I think you should take her home.”
Thomas pulled back, resting his head on the edge of the couch. He inhaled deeply, trying to control his frustration.
“Are you alright?” Morgan asked him, caressing his cheek.
“Just uncomfortable.” Thomas shifted, and met her worried gaze. “I had a muscle cramp in my back.”
“Do you want me to massage you?”
“Hmm... That sounds very entertaining.” He grinned.
Suddenly the music changed. Instead of soothing music floating out of the speakers, hard rock music blared from his expensive surround sound system, making the speakers shake. Morgan jumped and covered her ears.
Grumbling under his breath, Thomas sprang into action, hurrying to the remote to turn it off. But... where was the remote? His
