he could find humor at this moment, especially when her heartbeat still knocked against her ribs. She slapped his arm playfully. “They are trying to get into your house, silly.”
Thomas scowled. “I don’t want them in my house.” He pulled out his cell phone. “Crouch down a little lower.” He dimmed the lighting on his phone before pressing an app. Immediately, the lights in his house turned on, and a loud beeping noise boomed all around the estate.
Gasping, Morgan put her hand over her mouth to stop herself from laughing. She quickly snapped a few more pictures of the men running toward their truck as if the devil was after them. They jumped in the truck, and seconds later, they sped away from the estate.
Thomas’ shoulders relaxed as he chuckled and pressed the app on his phone again. The sounds stopped and the lights turned off. “I’ve only had to use this twice, but its such fun to watch the intruders run away.”
She laughed. “I bet Garth and his friends will need to go change their underwear after that one.”
Thomas grinned and rose to his feet, reaching a hand down to help her up. “Now, tell me why they are after my planner.”
“What do you have in your planner?” she asked.
Thomas began walking toward his house then stopped when she wasn’t following. “Are you coming?”
“Inside?”
“Sure, you can come inside.” He motioned his hand for her to walk with him. “Unless you don’t want to, of course.”
“Umm, well... don’t you have to go back to the party? After all, they are your guests.”
“True, but Cole can handle them.”
“Cole?”
“My friend. His brother owns the casino.”
She’d briefly been introduced to John’s brother that night, but she was more interested in taking pictures. “Oh, yes. Cole.” She moved beside Thomas and stopped. “Will my bike be all right by your bushes?”
“It should be.”
“Where did you park?”
His grin widened. “By your bike.” He started walking toward his mansion. “I saw you leave in a hurry, so I followed you to see what was wrong.”
“I’m glad you did. I tried to find you after overhearing Garth talking to his friends, but when I saw them leave, I knew I had to follow them and try to stop them from breaking into your house.” She held up her phone. “I also took some pictures of them trying to break through the gate.”
“Good thinking. That’ll help when I turn them in to the cops.”
The gate opened when he clicked another app on his phone, and they walked onto the grounds. Seconds later, the gate closed behind them.
She couldn’t stop herself from watching him. Sometimes he seemed like an ordinary man, but at times like this, he reminded her of the movie hero, James Bond – 007. Her heart lightened as the realization struck her that she had actually started liking Thomas, when only the other day she vowed she wouldn’t.
When they walked up the front porch, Thomas pulled out his key and unlocked the door. He walked in first and flipped on the light. She stepped inside slowly, not knowing what to expect since she’d never been in a billionaire’s bachelor pad before. She moved her gaze along the huge entry way with the black and white checkered tiled floor, and then up to the largest chandelier she’d ever seen hanging from the ceiling.
He closed the door and stepped beside her. “What do you think so far?”
She tore her attention off the expensive lighting and looked into his blue eyes. “Well, I can say it looks like some of the websites I’ve seen for the rich and famous.”
He shrugged. “I hired a decorator a few years ago. I was okay with what they’d done, but you’re right. It looks like every other billionaire’s entryway.”
She laughed and bumped his arm. “I didn’t mean it like that.”
“Don’t apologize, Morgan. I enjoy your honesty.”
“Thanks.” She hesitated and glanced around them again, this time, listening for others who might be in the house with them. “Do you have people that work in your house?”
“During the day they are here to help keep the place in order. They go home to their families at night. I don’t need a babysitter, although my parents might say differently.” He started walking down the hallway.
She kept up with his long strides. “So, you’re all alone in this big house?”
“Well, I’m not alone now. You’re with me.” He flashed her another smile.
“You know what I mean.” She folded her arms and tried not to bump into anything
