“Well, you’re not going to break me, not tonight.”
A low growl emerged from his chest, his eyes roaming down my body. “There’s the sexy I love so much. You’re confident as hell, no matter what. That’s why I love you.”
“You should have thought of that before you slept with her.”
Kyle smirked. “Are you really going to let that girl get between us?”
Standing my ground, I crossed my arms. “No, because there is no us. You said goodbye the moment you let her hands touch you.”
Kyle didn’t stand down. “Maybe I did it to get your attention.”
“That’s a really fucked up thing to do,” I spat. “Because that’s the last thing you’re going to get. Leave me alone!”
He let his hands drop from the wall, still standing before me. I was little, but I was fierce, not afraid to back down from him. “You don’t want me to leave.”
“I swear, I will kick you in the balls. Get out of my face. Now.”
“I’ll let you cool off, but don’t think we’re done,” he promised, backing away from me and strolling down the hallway.
I fell back against the wall, holding my hands over my mouth so I could scream into them. Who the hell did he think he was? We’d been together for so long. He watched my career flourish, I watched his hockey games and supported him through the ups and downs of the game. I did what I could to make time for him, to be there even when my life got hectic. I loved him and was faithful, and trust me when I say I had a lot of opportunities to disregard his feelings and respect, but I never did. I was always his, and he didn’t have the decency to return the same compassion and support.
I ran to the other side of the room, punching the wall, needing the anger to take over, but as hard as I fought it, my heart came into place, ripping in half and destroying me.
Stumbling around the broken glass on the floor, I plopped on an ottoman, throwing my head in my hands and crying, hoping I’d wake up and this nightmare would just be a dream.
Chapter Five
Jet, Present
Raina stormed out of my dressing room like a bull to a red flag. She must have taken my acceptance of her apology as half-assed.
Probably because it was.
I couldn’t take her being in my personal space any longer, and I was tired of hearing her bullshit excuses. She’s manipulative and deceiving, and damn it, she wore yoga pants better than an actual yoga instructor!
How could I be so attracted to such a brat?
“Where’s Raina?” Chase asked, picking up his bass guitar. “Weren’t you just talking to her before we came out here?”
Rocket toyed with a knob on his mixer, adjusting the tones to his keyboard. “I’m fine with celebrating, but the diva shit isn’t going to fly.”
Sebastian pulled out his phone from the inside of his suit jacket. “Let me see what’s taking so long.” He furiously typed on the screen, but shoved his phone back in his pocket.
After nearly an hour, the princess made her appearance, her entourage surrounding her. Calvin was on her left, his hair bleach blonde and spiked perfectly. He was a guy I’d never forget, and apparently was faithful to his goddess.
Raina’s hair was piled high on her head, sunglasses covering her eyes. She’d ditched the yoga pants for skinny jeans and a t-shirt.
“Raina, looking lovely,” Sebastian greeted, holding his hand out for her to shake. She smiled, but it was subtle.
“Sorry I’m late. I had something come up,” she murmured.
“No worries, Love. Let’s get started, shall we?” Sebastian waved for her to come on stage and talk to our stage director.
Calvin held Raina’s hand while she climbed up the steps to the stage. “Hey, Jet,” he flirted while passing me sitting on my amp. “Long time no see.”
I only gave him a head nod, refusing to look at Raina, but her ass caught my eye when she passed by, and I bit my lip. Her jeans were just as tight as the yoga pants.
Cursing under my breath, I jumped from the amp and paced toward Gunner’s drum set. “Dude, I don’t know if I can do this.”
Gunner leaned forward, still sitting on the stool. “It’s a little late to change plans. You’ll be fine, just pretend she’s someone else.”
Chase stepped into the conversation. “Yeah, just put a different face on her. Imagine the girl that has Gunner by
