how much the topic of her marriage upset her. Placing a hand on her chest, she gave a curt nod before sitting down at the table. The others followed, Gunner taking a place next to Katrina.
“Before we start, does this have something to do with the bikers watching us?” Teri asked, holding her glass with both hands.
“What men?” Brady asked, but Teri waved him off.
“Does it, Gunner?”
He reached over to clasp Kat’s hand, ignoring the surprise on her face. “Yes, ma’am. It does.”
The Brethren treated the plan as nothing less than a full scale op, requiring the same attention and execution. Wrath had taken a position a couple blocks away in a van equipped with the tools Raider needed to monitor the action. Ghost and Rock were with them.
On the street were four of his men, all dressed in black, ready to move forward on Wrath’s command. They all wore comm units, Wrangler leading the op.
Zeus had decided to oversee the actions of the Disciples from a different position. Wrath knew Einstein and Big T were with him.
Wrath had a burner phone to stay in contact with Zeus, saving his comm unit for secure orders to his men. Checking the time, he touched his earpiece.
“Ten minutes. Repeat, ten minutes to go.” He turned to Ghost. “Everything set with our backup?” Wrath alluded to the others he’d brought in.
“Affirmative. They’re on the comms with the rest of us, Prez.”
“E and E?” Wrath asked Rock, referring to escape and evade following tonight’s mission.
“All set.”
At three minutes to go, Wrath’s burner phone vibrated. He put it to his ear. “Zeus.”
“Your men ready?”
“As we agreed, they’re in place. Yours?”
“Yeah. Can you confirm the Mob scum are still in the room?”
Wrath shot a glance at Raider, who listened to the call. He nodded, verifying the men were still there. “They’re inside, Zeus. We’ve got two minutes until our men move in.”
Zeus’s next words didn’t bode well. “I’m cutting my men loose.” He ended the call.
“Shit.” Wrath fingered his earpiece. “Disciples are moving on Zeus’s order. Repeat. Disciples are activated. The op’s a go!”
“Roger that, Prez,” Wrangler answered, followed by the other men, including their backup.
It was a bold plan, carrying a good deal of risk. The odds didn’t bother any of them. If successful, it would be worth the added danger.
“Our men need a couple minutes alongside the Disciples before the backup takes over, Wrath.” Rock stared over Raider’s back to the screen.
“Sonofabitch,” Raider spat out. “Zeus’s men are storming the damn place. Not the plan.”
“Never thought he’d stick with our agreement.” Wrath smirked. He moved next to Rock, Ghost joining all of them for a view of the motel. “It won’t matter in another minute.”
“Our men are on scene, Prez. They’re staying close to the Disciples, sticking with the mission.” Raider manipulated the screen to focus on the motel room. He’d placed seven micro cameras to catch the operation.
“Zeus sent in four men. They’re pounding on the motel room door.” The four could see the screen, but Raider continued to relay the progress. “Our men are near them. If the Disciples decide to fire…” He didn’t need to say more. This was what they trained for, where they excelled.
“Fuckin’ Disciples. Our men were supposed to gain entry, then step back for Zeus’s men to enter.” Ghost ran a hand through his hair.
“Shit. Zeus’s men are firing into the room,” Rock said, although all of them could see it.
Again, Wrath touched his earpiece. “Wrangler…retreat. Repeat. Retreat your positions. Our backup will take over. Ethan and Geoff. Are you two with me?”
“Affirmative, Wrath,” his brother, Ethan, responded.
“We’re moving in, Wrath. Confirm your men have retreated,” Geoff said, gunfire splitting the air around the motel.
“Raider?”
“They’ve pulled back, Prez.”
“Wrangler. Report.”
“Iggy is down. Repeat, one man down. Not serious. We’re loading him into the van.”
Wrath’s hand clenched at his side. “Roger. Get the hell out of there, Wrangler.”
“On our way, Wrath.”
Raider glanced over his shoulder. “Van is retreating. Deputies and officers are moving in.”
The four watched the screen, comm units open for word from Ethan and Geoff.
“It’s a damn war zone, Wrath.” Ghost’s attention stayed glued to the screen.
The Disciples had taken a stand inside the motel room, firing at the officers and deputies, who’d established positions behind parked cars.
Wrath stood back, arms crossed. “All Ethan and Geoff have to do is wait them out. Once the Disciples realize they’ve nowhere to go, they’ll surrender their weapons.”
Ghost gave a slow nod. “You can bet the two members of the
