she shook her head. “No. Gunner’s a client at the nursery, and a gentleman. I know that’s unusual in the MC world, but it’s the truth. Put this on my tab, Doris?”
“Of course. You just be careful of those Eternal Brethren. I know they’ve done a lot for this town.”
“That’s what I’ve heard.” Katrina didn’t want to hear anything bad about Gunner. She knew Doris had no love for the outlaw MCs in the area. Neither did Katrina. And she had good reason to keep her distance. Something about Gunner and the Brethren was different. “Mom says the two of you are driving to the valley this afternoon to shop. Have a good time.”
Doris picked up the dirty plates, resting a hip against the counter. “Anything we can get you?”
“Not for me, but Brady could use some pants. He’s outgrown the ones he has.”
“I’ll let Teri know. You be careful, Kat. The buzz is another MC is taking over for the Night Devils.”
“Doesn’t have anything to do with me.” Still, Katrina felt her stomach muscles clench. Stopping with her hand on the doorknob, she shot a look at Doris. “Any rumors about who might be moving in?”
“Haven’t heard. When I do, you and Teri will be the first to know.”
Gunner joined the other men in the large front room of the clubhouse. It had been designed after what they’d learned about other outlaw MCs. If anyone other than the Brethren gained entrance, they’d see nothing suspicious.
A bar had been built against one wall, bottles of whiskey, gin, vodka, rum, and tequila lined the shelves. Along the perimeter were several used sofas, chairs, and wood tables with deep gouges. Two pool tables took up the center of the room.
Most days, water, juice, and sodas were served. They were always on duty, required to be prepared for one of Grayson’s ops. Sundays were different. The men were allowed one alcoholic drink, although most stayed with the other options.
So many of the men were now married, some with children. Regardless, no one balked at being called in on Sundays. When Wrath walked in from the back, the room fell silent.
“This won’t take long. Rock, Ghost, and Raider did a recon on the warehouse we suspect the Disciples have purchased to move into the county. While there, they spoke to one of the neighbors. An older guy with poor eyesight. He saw a few men on motorcycles and wearing cuts walk around the property a couple weeks ago. Didn’t get close enough to read what was on the cuts. Along with Grayson’s Intel, it’s confirmation the MC will be arriving soon.”
He tossed the file in his hand on the top of the bar. “After speaking with me, Raider, Rock, and Ghost returned the same night. There are now two dozen cameras and microphones outside and inside the property. We’ll monitor them until the Disciples find and destroy them. I've ordered a few of our new men to take shifts close to the property and alert me the instant they see activity. Not much we can do except monitor their progress. I don’t have to tell you not to mention the Disciples to anyone.”
Walking behind the bar, he pulled a beer from the refrigerator. Taking a long swallow, he looked around. “I spoke with Grayson. Tracker and Moses leave tomorrow for their scheduled training. Wrangler and Fuse follow on Thursday. Fargo and Bas leave Saturday. Chaos and Gunner leave on Tuesday. I’ll confirm the rest early next week.”
“When do you, Cara, and the boys head over?” Ghost asked.
“Thursday. You’ll take my place during my absence, with Rock as your second-in-command.”
“Always a bridesmaid,” Rock joked, receiving chuckles from the others.
“We’ll be gone five days, back on Monday night. Ghost and Rock will keep me current. I will be meeting with Grayson while I’m there.”
“Hope you don’t embarrass us during the training, Wrath,” Wrangler joked, loving to get a dig in on his oldest brother. “Hate to see our rep taking a dive. Maybe one of us should take your place.”
In answer, Wrath shot him a one-finger salute. “I’ll take you on anytime, anywhere, little brother. All right, time to finish this up. We’re looking at purchasing another business. The owner is ready to retire and doesn’t have anyone ready to take over. From what’s been provided so far, it’s a whole lot more profitable than I would’ve guessed. There is someone who might make a good assistant manager, but we’ll need to identify one of us
