I shouted more surprised by his question.
“Because you are a scholar, are you not?” he questioned, and I couldn't help but feel another twinge in my heart for this had often been Lucius' nickname for me, calling me his little scholar. It didn't feel right coming from anyone else and my face must have said as much.
“Oh, I see I have offended you in some way.” I felt bad when he said this so assured him,
“No, not at all and you're right, I'm a historian... scholar,” I added softly.
“Then you will be aware of your own history, where many Kings were thought to be the descendant of the Gods they worshipped, were they not?” Okay, so yes, he had a point.
“This is true, especially for the Egyptians, for no one believed it more than they… but I should point out that just because it was believed it didn’t make it true, and I have a feeling that you’re not just saying you’re a God because you’re trying to impress me here.” At this he laughed, and it was a handsome sound, a deep timbre that would make most girls swoon no doubt.
“No, I am not just trying to impress you, despite that you are most certainly worthy of achieving the task,” he said giving me the compliment and making me blush.
“Your own people, at one time or another throughout your history, have themselves worshipped us as their Gods, my brother Carn’reau especially, for he was known as the God of War and was worshipped by many tribes. Some of which were led by Genghis Khan, who you must know yourself, given your chosen profession, nearly ruled your world and dominated the largest land mass of your world’s history.” I had to say, the King kept shocking me.
“I am surprised you know so much, considering I was always under the impression you didn’t really like humans… what was it again, thought us as inferior beings?” I asked with a grin so as not to offend.
“Not inferior exactly, for that is not how I would ever put it,” he said, obviously now being put in a difficult situation as he was, in fact, taking to a human now, despite what he thought.
“But?”
“But yes, it is known that not all my brothers feel this way, but then your kind’s own history does not exactly lend you any favours in that regard.” Ah, so this is when we were to get to the nitty gritty as my mum used to say.
“Care to elaborate on that?”
“Oh, come now, you know of your own history most likely better than I, just how many wars are fought over greed and power? Can you really say that your Kings have put their Kingdom’s first, put the lives of their people first?”
“Alright, I will agree that not all wars over history have been fought with the people’s best interest in mind. But actions of a few should not then taint the good actions of many. Not all humans are power hungry megalomaniacs.” At this he laughed and said,
“No, and I have proof of that sat next to me right now, which makes me wonder how my brothers’ views would change, should they have been the ones fortunate enough to sit with you now.” I blushed again at his compliment and whispered a quiet,
“Thank you.”
“So, I guess seeing as you’re fated to a human, that’s why your history is so good?” I asked thinking back to what he said, and wondering just how the other ‘kings’ felt about being fated to a human then, if this was what they thought of us? Because, wow, that was going to make for a good match… not.
“I make it my place to know your history along with that belonging to my own realm and those that surround my own, for power is knowledge, is it not?” He pointed out my favourite saying with a gesture of his hand, making me take notice again at how big it was.
“I agree, in fact if I hadn't been such a bookworm growing up then I would know nothing of my own culture,” I admitted.
“Ah, you are a protected only child, I assume?”
“I was an only child for a while, yes, and being the only human born to supernatural parents, wasn't exactly easy for them or for me. But I am not an only child, as I have two brothers,” I told him, wondering why I did. Especially considering we were getting somewhat off topic now.
“And these
