hauled her body to his. “Tonight’s going to be great!” He looked back at us. “See you guys around and about.”
I just smirked at Vicky’s expression as Will carried her off to mingle and whatnot. “So much for her keeping me company,” I heard Fiona mutter.
I kissed her on the top of her head. “You don’t need her for company. I’m not leaving your side, Halloween.”
I spent the next hour shaking hands, making pleasantries, and wishing the clock would move faster, so I could get Fiona home and out of that goddamn dress.
Fiona had been nothing but perfect since we arrived. She didn’t even bat an eyelash when I introduced her as my girlfriend. I had just finished promising Myron Stanley a meeting when I saw Will and Vicky making their way towards us.
I could tell something was up. Will never did dramatic. “Hey, Dame.” He spared Fiona a quick glance. “I just ran into Bernard Willis. He’s hoping to congratulate you on our West Coast success.”
Bernard Willis has been a long-time client of ours and I respected him professionally. Personally was a different matter. His personal proclivities were questionable at best and, if he was a vulture, his daughter was a buzzard. And if Will was warning me about his approach, it could only mean he brought his buzzard with him.
“I have to go to the restroom and I’m taking Fiona with me,” Vicky announced.
Before I could protest, Vicky had already grabbed Fiona’s hand and was dragging her away. Vicky was lucky she was Fiona’s best friend or I might have had to kill her.
“How many millions would I have to give you so that you would let me leave you here to host the rest of the party alone?”
Will tossed his head back. “You don’t have that many millions. Besides, Dame, I’m not letting you do anything that’s going to keep me from getting inside Vicky tonight. Holy shit, dude! She had always been a pretty girl, but fuck me running, that is one hot redhead.”
I didn’t blame him. Vicky had grown up to be a beautiful woman. “Fine,” I conceded.
I was getting antsy waiting on Fiona when I heard my name being called from behind me. “Greystone!”
I turned around and found myself face-to-face with Bernard and his daughter. “Bernard,” I shook his hand, “it’s good to see you on the West Coast.” I nodded my head at his daughter, Crystal. “Crystal, you’re looking lovely this evening.”
She smiled her predatory smile, and I wanted to close my eyes and teleport myself to the women’s restroom. “Hello Damien. You’re looking as handsome as ever.” She placed her hand on my arm and I wanted to scrub her touch off of me with a scouring pad.
I did my best to pull my arm back from her without seeming too rude. Normally, I wouldn’t give a shit about stuff like that, but I made it a point to never forget that what I did and how I behaved business-wise affected Will as well.
What the fuck was taking the girls so long?
Bernard turned to talk to Will about whatever the fuck, leaving me stuck to entertain the blonde-headed viper standing with us.
Crystal inched closer towards me than I was comfortable with. “You know, Damien, it really is a shame that we didn’t get to spend more time together before you came out here permanently.”
Where. The. Fuck. Is. Fiona??
“Your father is a very valued client. As much as we try to treat each client as if they’re the only one, there are just not enough hours in the day.” I stepped back as stealthily as I could.
She pouted and coyly looked up at me through her ridiculously fake lashes. “I wasn’t talking business, Damien.”
Thankfully, Bernard unknowingly threw me a lifeline. “Enough business for tonight.” He elbowed Will in a good, ole boy manner. “Where’s that hot redhead I saw you with earlier, Will?” The douchebag winked. “You surely have your hands full with that one. Is she your…uh, girlfriend?”
Before Will could answer, Crystal spoke up in what I imagine she thought was a flirty manner, “Oh, Daddy, men like Will and Damien don’t have time for girlfriends. They’re too busy ruling the world.” She giggled, and I wanted to slam myself headfirst into the nearest wall.
Will held up a finger at her. “Actually, Crystal, that’s not entirely true.” He winked back at Bernard. “She’s not my girlfriend yet, but I’m working on it.” He shot me a quick look. “She’s actually with Damien’s
