“We’ll be fine.” Looking over at Will, she said, “I promise I won’t let her embarrass you amongst your friends and business associates, Will.”
Will looked like he wanted to say something, but we headed towards the bar before he got the chance. As soon as we sat down, I signaled the bartender for a shot of tequila.
“Let's fucking kill them,” I fumed.
“Trust me,” Fiona grimaced, “I’d like nothing more, but I can’t, Vee. I’m tired of Damien making me look and feel like a fool. There’s no way I’m going to give him the satisfaction of letting him know that seeing him with that woman bothered me.”
The bartender set the shots of tequila down in front of us, and as I lifted my glass, I looked at her and said, “To pride?”
Fiona nodded. “To pride,” she agreed, raising her glass. The shots when down smoothly and soon we had another round.
Things were going well when two very good-looking guys came to sit down with us. “Are these seats taken?” asked the guy with dark brown hair.
“Not at all,” I answered knowing I was possibly going to start a brawl, but I didn’t care.
Fuck Damien Greystone and Will Creston.
“I’m Gareth and this is my business associate and friend, Martin,” he introduced as they took the seats next to us, Martin on my other side and Gareth on Fiona’s.
“I’m Vicky and this is Fiona,” I greeted back.
Martin’s brows shot up. “Tequila?”
I turned and smiled at him. “Hell, yeah.” From there on, we were taking shots and having a great time. That is, until Damien’s evil cast a shadow over us.
“Having a good time, Ladies?” There was no mistaking it. Damien was seething and the guys sitting next to us knew it. We all felt the shift in the air.
I looked up at him-still pissed-and replied, “Absolutely, Mr. Greystone.” I gestured towards Gareth and Martin and smiled. “We’ve even managed to make new friends.”
Damien turned to Gareth first and stuck out his hand, then did the same with Martin. “Damien Greystone. And who might you two gentlemen be?”
They each shook his hand as they shared a nervous look. “Mr. Greystone, I’m-” Gareth was cut off.
Damien waved away whatever he had been about to say. “Actually, I really don’t give a fuck who you are, so much as I give a fuck about what you’re doing.”
“Dami-”
He ignored Fiona and proceeded to piss a circle around her. “Innocent or not, stay away from my girlfriend, fellas. Trust me when I tell you, you’ll be healthier for it.”
Gareth threw his hands up in surrender, while Martin murmured, “Sure thing.”
I jumped up off the barstool. “You had no-”
The look he shot me was lethal. “Vicky, I am not the one and now is not the time.”
Ooookayyyyy.
I looked over at Fiona and I couldn’t read her. So, when Damien grabbed her by the arm to drag her with him, I followed because I wasn’t sure what was going to happen now. Would he kick us out and leave us to fend for ourselves? I wouldn’t put anything past the man.
As soon as we found Will, Damien gave him a quick rundown about the guys at the bar, and, suddenly, Will looked every bit as pissed off as Damien.
“We’re leaving,” Damien announced, and I could tell that he was one minor irritation away from slaughtering the entire building.
“Go ahead,” Will told him. “We’ll stay here until it’s appropriate for us to leave.” Damien gave him a tight nod and I kept quiet as I watched him walk away with Fiona in tow.
The next thing I knew, my arm was in Will’s grip, and he was hissing in my ear. “Are you fucking kidding me right now? You were fucking around with a couple of other guys, Vicky?”
I turned and looked up at him. “We were not fucking around with them,” I denied. “We were having drinks and just talking.”
He didn’t look like he believed me. “We’re going to work this room for another hour or so, and I’m going to make up for Damien’s absence, but after that, we’re leaving. And if you so much as bat your eyelashes at another guy while I’m parading you around as my date, so help me God, I won’t be responsible for my actions, Victoria.” Will started dragging me behind him to go make small talk before I could comment, but, holy hell, what could I say?
Sweet Baby Jesus.
