a legal team on the West Coast too, right?”
Damien chuckled. “Would it be an asshole move to remind you of how you once scoffed at my views on kidnapping?”
“Asshole,” I clipped out before hanging up on him.
It’s true what they say, you can never understand the power of a woman until you meet the one who is unlike all the others. Men fall in love all the time to the chagrin of their friends and then the teasing starts because all the single bastards can’t understand why their buddy is willing to forego every other person on the planet for that one woman. Most people call it being pussy-whipped, but I had been a sucker for Victoria McGrath long before I ever knew what it was like to be inside her pussy.
Would I really act a fool if she took at date to the reception?
Why, yes. Yes, I would.
Vicky and I weren’t over by a long shot, and if she thought showing up with a date was going to deter me from demanding answers, well, then, she really didn’t know me at all. She might think she’s still dealing with teenage Will, but I haven’t been a teenager for years.
Nope.
Grownup Will was going to show grownup Vicky just who she was dealing with.
Chapter 13
Married to Satan. Who knew?
Victoria~
The reception hall looked beautiful, and it was all Fiona-like. While Damien had more money than God, Fiona was never a finer-things type of girl and so the hall had been decorated tastefully simple.
“Everything looks perfect, Fee?”
She smiled. “The party planner did a wonderful job,” she replied, giving credit where it was deserved.
We were in a private room where I stood behind her as she looked in the mirror. “You also look perfect,” I told her, smiling.
Fiona scrunched her nose. “Is it silly that I’m nervous?”
“Not at all,” I assured her. “For all intents and purposes, this is your wedding reception. You’re taking those private moments where you guys got married and sharing them with others. That’s reason enough to be a little nervous.”
She turned around and hugged me. “You’re the best friend a girl’s ever had, Vee,” she said, her voice full of emotion.
My arms automatically came around her and I hugged this sweet girl who deserved the world. She deserved all the happiness in the world. “I hope you still think that if I end up holding Will’s head down in the punch bowl and drown the asshole.”
Fiona laughed and pulled back. “I’m quite sure your father would save him before it came to that. No way would he let you go to prison,” she teased.
“Have you met my parents?” I teased back.
She smiled and then smoothed her hands down her pretty light blue summer dress. “Okay, how do I look?”
“Beautiful,” I replied truthfully.
She linked her arm in mine. “Okay, let’s go do this.”
We walked out of the room and down the corridor that led to the main banquet hall. Damien agreed to have the reception in Smithtown since the only people Fiona had wanted here lived here, so the reception hall was very understated and…comfortable. If someone accidentally spills a beer on themselves, no one would care. It really was only family and close friends.
We stopped at the curtained archway and I looked over at Fiona. “Okay, here I go,” I told her, the biggest smile on my face. “Make sure when you walk out there you bring that husband of yours to his knees, Fee.”
Fiona laughed. “I don’t think he should be on his knees while our parents are here. Things could become super inappropriate,” she joked.
“Geez, woman, I said drop him to his knees, not get naked while he’s down there,” I scolded playfully.
She laughed but then love shown through every inch of her face. “He’s going to love me forever, Vicky,” she whispered in awe.
I couldn’t stop my eyes from glassing over. After witnessing everything Damien’s ever done to her, she deserved the love of a lifetime. I grabbed her hands and held them between us. “Damien’s going to love you for a lot longer than that, Fiona,” I told her.
She gave me a tight nod and a watery smile, and my heart thumped at how happy I was for her-for her and Damien. “Okay, remember,” I said composing myself, “knees, Fee. Bring that man to his knees.”
When I walked through the curtains, I’m not sure what I was expecting, but it wasn’t to find Damien standing in the middle of the room waiting for Fiona. A
