to get back out there. Darius was pretty annoying in keeping me delayed as much as possible.”
Annoying isn’t the word I’d use, but it fits Aleister’s mild manner perfectly. “So, this is for a Shift? How disappointing,” I murmur, moving in closer.
“Thanks for rescuing me.” He gives me another laugh. “Words I never thought I’d say.”
“Anytime,” I say breezily but then give him a fierce frown. “Actually, scrap that. Don’t get caught again.”
“I’ll try not to,” he says, wrapping his arms around me and giving me a kiss.
“Keep that up and I’ll have to delay you even more,” I say, stepping back.
“I’ll hold you to that later,” he says and then Shifts. He hops up onto the roof ledge and then with a swoop of his huge wings, he’s gone.
“Dammit, now I’m all riled up again,” I complain. As soon as I think about what started all of this in the first place, my arousal plummets to the ground and keeps on going.
Shax.
How dare he do this to me. I’m going to have to go there and get him back by whatever means necessary. Only problem is, I really want to avoid going to Earth and starting its destruction before I am actually ready to bring forth Armageddon and secondly, there is no way I can get to mid-Heaven. I’m all Demon. There isn’t a single Angelic bone in my body.
I do, however, know someone who does and I’m willing to bet my crown that he will want to get his son back from the clutches of the other side as much as I do and save me from threatening them to get my brother back.
Decision made, I head off to the wing of the residence where my mother and her husbands live. I clench my fists knowing that Shax has the box in which my father is, and he hasn’t brought it to me yet. This level of betrayal is going to be difficult to get over. If I even can.
I knock at the door to my parent’s place. “We need to talk,” I say as soon as it opens. “Shit is hitting the fan all over the damned place.”
“No fucking kidding,” Mom drawls and opens the door wide to let me in. “Where do we start?”
Chapter 10
Aleister
I land gently on the roof of the Rooftop, to Igor pacing fretfully.
“Finally!” he exclaims when he sees me. “I thought you were done for.”
“Gee, thanks,” I mutter, but give him a tight smile. “I’m fine. Annabelle sorted it out.”
“Annabelle?” he inquires with a small smirk which then turns serious. He points upwards. “He shot you out of the fucking sky!” He points downwards, which probably indicates my plummet from several hundred feet.
“I’m fine,” I reiterate, even though the pain in my side makes me want to weep. “Roberta fixed me and then Annabelle released me from arrest, so it’s all good.”
“You sure?” he asks, not sounding convinced.
“Yes. Oh, and keep the information about me being shot to yourself. If Annabelle finds out, she will eviscerate Darius and she needs him right now.”
Igor nods slowly. “Okay,” he says. “So, what now?”
“We get back to work. The change is due any minute now. We need to pull two from the south-east side to join the others at the pits. This change of climate, along with the lockdown, is going to cause trouble once the masses have worked themselves up enough.”
“That leaves only two on the south-east side,” Igor points out. “Is it enough?”
“It’s the least active area right now, so we have to go where the hot spots are. Monty and Cliff will be fine on their own over there, and if need be, I can join them.”
“Done,” Igor says with a nod and leaves to deal with the changes.
Once he is gone, I slump into my desk chair and pull up my t-shirt. My side looks fine, so why the Hell is it hurting so bad?
“You need to tell her,” Roberta says, popping in out of nowhere.
I give her a filthy look. “You healed me, what’s the point?”
“I didn’t heal you. I covered it up,” she states and waves her hand over my torso.
“Fuck,” I groan as the cover-up drops away and the wound reappears looking worse than it did before.
“You are a Master Gargoyle; I don’t have the ability to heal you. She does.”
“Then why not just tell her to begin with?” I snap.
“You know as well as I do that she would’ve eradicated Darius on the spot. She needs him
