the door, but this is Annie’s show. I will do whatever it is she wants me to do.”
“Yeah,” Drescal says, with a slow nod. “Same.”
I find his response a little odd, but don’t call him on it. He is probably just trying to get his head around it. Bringing a female into our circle could cause complications for him being what he is, but not in this case. I’ve known Xavi a long time. She doesn’t do dick. I’m not worried about her and Drescal. I am worried about her and Killian. Catastrophic consequences are the two words that come to mind.
However, I’ve come to learn that life with Annabelle Pandora is never boring.
Chapter 9
Annabelle
“Get your hands off him!” I roar, knowing that the Shift is descending, and I can’t stop it.
I see Aleister on his knees, a chain around his neck and his arms behind his back in Darius’s grip as he looms over him, keeping my Master Gargoyle down.
“Darius,” I growl, my voice changing, going deeper as I start to Shift. My wings sprout out and Roberta ducks out of reach. I’m not in full Devil mode or I would kill everyone, including Aleister. But this is enough to satisfy the craving that hasn’t been put to rest since I found out about Shax’s trip to mid-Heaven.
“He broke lockdown,” Darius rasps. “He belongs in the dungeon with all of the other offenders.”
“No, he belongs in the sky, looking out for the residence,” I snarl back, my tail swishing wildly. It’s a good thing that I was practically naked anyway when I arrived here unceremoniously. I barely had any clothes to burst out of. “His Gargoyles are the eyes up there. They are his subjects.”
“Broke lockdown,” Darius snaps, his big square head finally rising to look at me. I don’t know what Dad was thinking when he created this beast. He is hideous to look at. He has two rows of spikes running along the sides of his head, a wide mouth with several rows of sharp teeth. He stands over seven feet tall on his big-ass feet and his skin is made from dark gray scales with a green tinge to it, hard enough to be his armor.
“He was never supposed to be locked down in the first place,” I argue, getting even more riled up the longer we stand here. “Let. Him. Up.”
With a low rumble, Darius gives Aleister a rough shove, but lets him go.
Aleister gives me a brief smile as he gets to his feet. He keeps his distance, knowing that he can’t get too close to me.
“You get one,” Darius grits out. “The next one is mine.”
“Not if they belong to me,” I inform him. “Ask Roberta who is off limits.” I turn to her and give her a nod of thanks.
She gives me a bland look back, but deep down I know she appreciates it. Bitch. She might be a monstrosity, but it’s nice to see she has my back...or rather, the back of my lover.
I give her another look. She is trying not to look at Aleister but can’t resist it seems.
I snort and look at the Gargoyle. He doesn’t have a fucking clue that Roberta has the hots for him. What a riot. I’m going to enjoy seeing him blush when I tell him.
“You’re all dismissed,” I grate. It’s starting to hurt talking in this form.
Darius and his security men leave under a cloud. Aleister gestures upwards to me with his hand and I give him a nod. Roberta breaks the chain and he hightails it out of the office as I concentrate on getting the Shift to start so that I can go and be with my lover without frying him to a crisp.
With a roar that tears through me as painfully as the Shift, I suddenly find myself standing starkers in the office with Roberta. She gives me a once-over, which I do nothing to stop. She should look at me. Everyone should see me naked at least once and either want to be me or fuck me.
Hopefully, Roberta is thinking she wants to be me. If she wanted to fuck, I’d have to say thanks but no way.
I snap my fingers, covering up and then I flame out of the office to the roof where Aleister is waiting for me, with nothing but a smile on his face.
“Oh?” I ask, approaching him slowly. “You expecting something?”
“Only if you’re offering,” he says with a laugh. “But no, I have
